Default Is it ok to buy a New TV from K-Mart or Walmart?

Or would you do better going to Circuit City or Best Buy?

I have always purchased my appliances from a big name store like Best Buy, etc. only because of the warranty that you get and also the extended warranties. If you don't care abt that, then go ahead at a store like Wal-mart or Kmart. My daughter bought her flat screen tv from Wal-mart and it's been two years and it works great, no problems.

I try to stick to the major stores too when buying a TV

Since 2001, all the TVs I've bought have been from Costco, since they stand by their product.

Late last year, I bought my first HDTV from them (it was a brand I'd never heard of until that point). A few months later, it started doing crazy things, like blasting the volume up to full when I had it on mute.

I was able to return it to Costco more than three months later, no questions asked, and without the original box in which the TV came. I was also able to exchange it for a much nicer Philips for a few hundred dollars more.

Five years ago, I bought a 27" Philips standard TV (which I still have). About a year later, Comcast came to install digital cable, and the male coax jack was somehow broken off of the set. I called Costco, and they exchanged the TV, again with no questions asked - even though they really didn't have to.

The only time I buy something like that at a Kmart or Target, etc. is if it's a radio, clock-radio or a small t.v. like when I bought one for my dad's business when he was alive.

That's what I would do. I've always liked Best Buy for stuff like that.
My TV and VCR were bought there and they work great.

I don't think it matters. All TV sets come with at least a one-year manufacturer's warantee. If something goes wrong they give you phone numbers and addresses of people for repair and they pay for it. If you buy a good name TV there shouldn't be too much problem with it anyway.

I would go with Best Buy or something. They always have better stuff.

They sell the same stuff, same brands and everything.

I always go to the bigger stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, etc.
They seem more reliable. But like Irene said, for something small like a clock radio or something, I'll go to WalMart or Target.

I've bought a cheap VHS VCR at Wal-Mart 1.5 years ago, and I bought my 27" Emmerson TV last September. They both are working quite fine.

I used to woek in customer service for an electronics store here in Florida. I would spend hours on the phone with the companies that handle warranties. I hate warranty companies!! They are impossible to deal with and take forever to replace or fix a product. I can't tell you how hard it is to explain to someone why we have to have numerous service calls before something can be replaced!! Very annoying!!

I bought a tv from Target almost 4 years ago. I love it!! I recently bought my son a tv from Target. It even has a dvd player built in. I paid under $100 for it.
