Default Stand By Your Man (1992)

Does anybody remember Stand By Your Man with Melissa Gilbert and Rosie O'Donnell??

Default I DO.....

....I think the original British version, "BIRDS OF A FEATHER", was funnier. Pairing Melissa Gilbert and Rosie in the same sitcom was a mistake. Why do you think it lasted less than 13 weeks? On FOX, yet?

I think I remember this. Didn't Rosie O'Donell's character have a boyfriend that was in prison on this show? Speaking of prison, anyone remember Women In Prison? I think that only lasted one season too. I think it was also on Fox, 1987 or 1988, going just from memory without looking it up.

Default Yep...

...in the story line, Rosie and Melissa's husbands were incarcerated, and they lived together in the same house until their release. I cannot recommend watching one episode of the series, except for "historical curiosity"....nobody ever really knew how to harness Rosie's comedic talents in a sitcom! I think the original British version had more of a bite to it.

As for "WOMEN IN PRISON", that came from the people who also gave you "MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN". Too "over the top" to sustain itself (and what was PEGGY CASS doing in it??). Less than one season....

I could never picture Melissa Gilbert in a sitcom.

Yeah I gotta agree with you on both shows. I think I only watched the first episode of Stand By Your Man. I think it was on Sunday nights after Married With Children or maybe The Simpsons. What about Boys Will Be Boys? Wasn't that just a retooled version of the shows Second Chance? I remember watching that on Saturday nights, something about Chad Everett going back in time somehow and trying to help out his younger self, played by Mathew Perry. But how was this done, was he helped by an angel or did he have some kind of time machine?

Default Actually....

..."STAND BY YOUR MAN" was originally on after "HERMAN'S HEAD" [10-10:30pm(et)] on Fox's Sunday schedule, then moved up to 10:30 before it was pulled off the schedule in the summer of '92.

Kiel Martin was the original star of "SECOND CHANCE" (1987), not Chad Everett, 'anthony'. And it DID become "ONE OF THE BOYS" in early 1988, focusing on Matthew Perry and company, and dropping Martin's character (who, after his death in 2011, was sent back in time by "St. Peter" {who was also dropped from the plotline with the change in format}, who watched him guide his "younger self" in "1987").

As for Melissa Gilbert, 'seventies', that's probably why she never attempted another comedy series ever again.

You're right about Keil Martin, but wrong about the title change. It WAS called Boys WIll Be Boys.

One Of The Boys was a different show.
