Default problem burning

does anyone know why i would keep recieving an error message while trying to burn on my computer? i have tried both decrypter and clonedvd. it's not the media because it is working in my duplicator fine and i use this brand almost every disc i use(memorex). how do you know when it is time to replace your burner? i thought someone on here said they usually last around 7k discs or something like that and i am sure i haven't done more than 3k.

What is the error? When does it happen? With what program does it happen? Just because your memorex works in your duplicator doesn't mean it will certainly work well in the computer burner. I do although also highly doubt it's media. I've been burning since they came out with Decrypter and Clone, are you getting the Write DVD 115 error in Clone? I/O errors with Decrypter?

the message i am getting from clonedvd2 is

writing to video media was not successful:

media write error

a write error has occurred, probably caused by a bad media.

please replace media and try again.

crap that's not what it said the first time. i'll go get some new discs tomorrow and see if that is really the problem. i guess i should have tried getting new discs before i bothered posting.

I highly suggest you switch to a better media. Sony (made in Japan ONLY..these are Taiyo Yuden brand marked as Sony), Verbatim or brand name Taiyo Yuden.

With Taiyo Yuden at .29 per 100 shipped free from here:
http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...a=1&s_cata=286

There is absolutely no reason to use lesser quality media.

As I figured, it's not the media. I/O is input output error (the dvd burner communication with your computer), I had that happen on my old HP200i after seemingly millions of burned dvds. I wouldn't be surprised if you go to restart and get the twfsctrl error thing. Time for a new DVD burner and the I/O address will be reset and such. You should be able to burn some of the time, and rip, but about 50% of the time things will mess up/not get started. That's your answer, there's some great burner deals over at

http://www.slickdeals.net/

They usually use newegg.com. I saw a Dual Layer 16x burner for $31 shipped last week.

You can get an external one that just plugs into a USB port.

Just because that brand of media works in other machines or has worked for you before, does not always mean it's not the media. I currently have a batch of Riteks that will only burn in the Benq & not the Pioneer. These same Riteks (discs stamped with Ritek & not the print ons and DVD+R purchased on spindles of 100 from Supermediastore) have worked for me before to the tune of several hundred (on either burner). But for some reason, this batch doesn't like the Pioneer.

Doesn't really matter on what kind of new burner, my personal best results have been with Pioneer. It's been the most reliable and fastest, as well as not causing a single problem.

i have a pioneer in my top of the line sony media computer

i thought it would be a good machine for production, etc

it has all the tv stuff on it, and two dvd drives

i used the pioneer for a while and just needed to stop

i wasted enough discs to buy a good burner

so i gave that computer to my wife for email, and i have gone to 100% nec 3550 burners

about $30-$35 shipped to your door

a very small price to pay for a machine that will run a long time

probaby about a penny per disc burned in the long haul
