Exclamation I need some quick opinions/responses, please!

I met up with an old junior high/middle school friend in early May of this year. I happened to walk into a Checker's store where she works. She was the first one to recognize me. We talked a bit, and we traded cellphone numbers.

She called me a couple of days later while I was at work. I couldn't talk long, but she told me to call her back that afternoon. I told her I would. I got lazy about calling her. For one thing, I had some other things going on in my mind that I didn't feel in the mood to socialize or explain what I was going through.

Fast foward to mid-August (last Friday), and I finally sent her a text message (it's costing me extra because I don't have the texting plan but I hate phone socializing) apologizing for my delay and asked if she wanted to get together so we can catch up for the weekend. Well, it's been nine days later, and I haven't heard from her.

I am planning on going to the dollar theatre to watch Adam Sandler's comedic movie, Click, and it starts in about one hour and 45 minutes.

I would like to try and call her this time instead of texting her to see if she wants to come along with me. Then we can chit-chat during the afternoon. I wanted to give it a shot. But....do you all think it's too last minute? Rude? Or...???

I need quick opinions, please, as I need to make a quick decision very soon. Thank you to anyone who responds.

I would ask her and apologize for the short notice.

Thank you, GidgetGrape, for your advice. I have decided to give her a ring. I got a "this number is incorrect" message. Either that, or she changed numbers and this one is now disconnected. Grrrr.... No wonder I didn't hear from her that last Friday. Great.... That means I am going to have to visit her sometime next week after I get off work to visit her at her job. I'll explain it to her in person then.

That means I will just go to the movies by myself this time, regardless. Then I will catch up with her in the coming week and make get-together plans so we can catch up. We have 14 years to catch up on!! Hahaha.... Thanks again.

I agree with gingergrape. No harm in trying but make sure you apologize for the last minute notice, and don't make it sound like she was the last person you asked or anything. And if she says no, try and use it as an opportunity to make firmer plans for a later time.

ETA: must have posted at the same time

It doesn't hurt to try. Is is possible she's a little angry because of the three month delay in contacting her?

That was my first intuition when I didn't hear from her, but when I tried giving her a ring just a few moments ago, I got the "wrong number" message. So, that explains why she hasn't replied. Nonetheless, I think I will visit her this coming week at her job. Thanks, Janice.

She could be a little angry, but I really doubt it. I'd say, give it a shot. What have you got to lose? If you guys get together, then if the matter comes up of not calling her, hopefully you can explain it to her. As for the short notice, then just a sorry and short explanation should do, I think. If it doesn't work out, at least you can say you gave it a try.

Mona, she might be a litte angry that you didn't call her last May. My advice would be to stop by her place of work and apologize for the delay in calling her back. I'm sure that she will understand once you have a chance to explain things to her.

I read your PM a short while ago, Mona. Thank you. You can expect a reponse from me at some point during the week.

I hate to make Mona's thread here about me, but the topic (middle school friendships) is one that has been on my mind for a couple of months now. Anyone who knows me knows that junior high was a terrible experience for me. The two years I was there (1988-1990) were two of the worst of my life, especially 8th grade (the 1989-1990 school year). One of the few good things about 8th grade was a friendship I had with a girl named Angela. She was one year behind me, which meant that she was in 7th grade. However, she was in my study hall and she is one of the people I ate lunch with. Also, for the single year that she lived here, she lived about a block away. Her family moved into our neighborhood during the summer of 1989 and moved to another state in June of 1990. Anyway, Angela was such a great friend during that really difficult time in my life and over the past few months I have been thinking about her. I have been wondering where she is and what became of her.

No, you're fine about posting your story. My "quick advice" is not really needed anymore since I've received responses and it's already past.

There are a couple of ways to try and search for someone. Thanks to the internet and its different search tools. You can try running searches on Google, White Pages, and Zaba Search. Some of these also give email addresses. Or, you can try local phone books. Or, as crazy as it may sound to some, but MySpace is also a good tool. It lets you search for schools and school years. You never know what you'd find. Good luck!!

I actually tried Classmates.com. I signed up for that site two years ago and figured that I should use it for something.

I signed up for Classmates.com because a friend kept pressuring me. I've only visited the site two or three times though.

Thank you, Mona.
