Thumbs up A documentary that I HIGHLY recommend

The documentary is called Overnight and it follows the rise and fall of Troy Duffy. He was a bartender that sold his script to Hollywood for over a million dollars.

His friends decide to document Troy as he takes his script to Hollywood to make it into a movie. What ensues is huge success, lies, betrayal, and even possibly attempted murder! Watch as Troy becomes a small fish in a big pond to believing he is a Big fish in a little pond.

I was enthralled with this film as it really shows the good and mostly the bad in making movies in Hollywood. I highly recommend it.

I'll check it out. I looked it up, and it's based in Boston.

Yes Janice, Troy Duffy is originally a Bostonian. I really think you would like this film.

I just got back from the video store Brian, and I got it! The guy who works at the store was raving about it at the checkout counter. We're on a first name basis, lol. He told me I should rent The Boondock Saints, which is the basis for Overnight, but you knew that.

We'll watch it tonight. I better like it. Don't forget, I know where you live.

I'm glad you got it. I tried renting The Boondock Saints, but it was out in two video stores I belong to. Apparently, the movie has a cult like following.

Thumbs up

Brian, I absolutely loved it. Troy Duffy is the biggest blowhard, jerk, creep, dirtbag going. I'm ashamed he's from Boston. He deserves every bit of failure that came his way because his arrogance brought it on. I was never so happy to see someone fail in my life.

The only bad thing about his losing out is that he was surrounded by some really nice people, whom he treated like crap....even his own brothers.

I bet Harvey Weinstein bought up all the copies of Boondock Saints just to piss Duffy off. That's probably why you can't find it, lol.

Lou really enjoyed it too. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm glad you liked it Janice, the only thing that was left open for me is the "runaway driver." That was a bit odd.

I think that was staged. The camera just happened to be on. Nobody was caught. Duffy was such a legend in his own mind that he wanted to imply that someone was out to get him, probably Weinstein. As if anyone would want to bother with a two-bit filmmaker of one B- movie.

Duffy was very bitter against everyone. He needed to take a good look in the mirror to see who ruined his almost career. I think the booze contributed a lot to his erratic and nasty behavior. Here's a guy who was handed a golden opportunity and just blew it by being a jerk. To me, there was nothing likable about him. Just a drunk, foul-mouthed walking ego.

I liked that quote they put up on the end of the film about what success does to a person. I'll take a look in a while and post it.

There's a lot on the web about him. He's sort of the poster boy for screwing up in Hollywood before even really getting started. His best hope is that his documentary does well. I know he gets nothing from home video sales of Boondock Saints.

Here's the quote.

"No man is really changed by success. What happens is that success works on the man's personality like a truth drug, bringing him out of the closet and revealing...what was always inside his head."

I watched The Boondock Saints. I enjoyed it, until the last 20 minutes when it just dragged on. When I start looking at the clock when I'm watching a movie, that's a bad sign, lol.

It is worth seeing. Willem Defoe played an interesting part.

I can't imagine anyone not liking this documentary. It's such an interesting story. What a human trainwreck, lol.

Again Brian, thanks for the recommendation. I never would have heard about this if you hadn't told me.

I really would like Little Mel to catch this as well. You are the first two people I thought about when I saw this movie.

I am almost positive that Netflix has this available. If you do rent it, let me know what you think.
