Default For the people who studies the Jeffersons hard.

I am by far a huge Jefferson fan. I guess I'm what you call "addicted" to them. Anyways...I watch the show so much, that I am able to catch things that the average person wouldn't even noticed....Anywho....I have noticed that the writers had slipped up on the story line a few times...

ex:

When George proposed to Weezy:
One episode it was mentioned that Coney Island is where he proposed at.
Another episode said that it was the Italian restuarant called Luigi's

Weezy's Engagement Ring:
One episode George said he borrowed the money from Dusty to buy her ring.
Another episode they mentioned it came from one of those claw machines.

Sammy Davis:
When they were on AITF, Weezy met and kissed the man.
On the Jeffersons she acted as if she never met him.

George the only Child or was he:
It was given the impression that he was the only child.
AITF he had his brother Henry, and he was metioned on the Jeffersons once.

George's Father:
It was said that his father died when he was a kid.
Weezy stated that she and his father talked about his ancestry for hours

Weezy's Father:
In the later seasons, she said her father died when she was two.
One of the earlier seasons, she mentioned that her father questioned her love for George.

Those are just a few.....I guess the writers thought that no one really pays that much attention....

You will find that a lot in 70's sitcoms. As a matter of fact, you can find errors like that in sitcoms like Roseanne and current shows. The only reason one is able to pick up on them is when they are in syndication and one sees them on DVD you are able to watch the series over and over. Back in the days (70's) we only got to watch it once a week. With syndication and the blessing of DVD's, it's fun to see these shows and pick up on stuff we missed the first, second or third time around.

I noticed some of those things too, but as was stated earlier I give them a break generally because at the time who would've thought that anyone would be analyzing this series. The engagement ring thing is a blooper that stands out to me though. The Gift in the last season is the one where Louise says that it came from a claw machine and that she'd lost it in the building 3 years earlier. The last episode before that to reference her ring is the Strays in year 8 where George replaces the stone, so the writers knew that there'd been a ring episode 3 seasons earlier but didn't bother to check the details.

There's an episode in year 1 where Mother Jefferson says that George is the younger of her sons (forget which episode). In Father Christmas in season 10 Henry is nowhere to be seen in the flashback with George and his father. I think George said that his father had died not long after that scene.

But there is a lot of consistency throughout the show that makes up for these errors:

continued references to Mother Jefferson after she had died,

continued references to Lionel, Jenny and Jessica when they weren't in the show anymore

In Real Men Don't Dry Clean Tom Willis says that he's been married 29 years. That's in the middle of year 10. The last year 10 show has the Willises on their 30th anniversary. Actually George says how long he'd been married in that same show and I think it is inaccurate. That same honeymoon episode has a reference to when they all went to Hawaii. The Hawaii episodes mention that it had been 5 years since George and Louise had been on a vacation- which is accurate- they'd been on a cruise in season 2.

In Otis there are references to events from past episodes including the Willises owning a summer beach house.

Brent Tobin, Florence's favorite actor is mentioned in 2 different episodes before he is finally shown in the last season.

Some elements that were only addressed once should have been followed up on though:

What became of Louise's father, sister, nephew and her supposed "daugher"?

All of George's old friends and neighbors and cousin who came through for visits were never seen again.

Florence never had a friend, relative or boyfriend appear more than once.

Louise never had a daughter. That girl believed Louise to be her biological mother, but she was mistaken.

well remember the episode that george's nephew comes to stay with him? so george couldn't have been the only child.
