He also had a variety show in the early to mid 60s called "THE ENTERTAINERS" where the hosts were him, Carol Burnett & Dom DelLaoise

Default The first...

"BOB NEWHART SHOW" was a half-hour comedy/variety series on NBC's Wednesday night schedule during the 1961-'62 season {10-10:30pm(et)}, sponsored by Kraft's "Sealtest" division. It featured Bob's monologues, some very satirical sketches featuring himself and his regular cast, and an occasional musical performance by a guest star. It was awarded an Emmy for "Best Variety Show", but low ratings [it was on opposite ABC's "NAKED CITY" and CBS' "U.S. STEEL HOUR" & "ARMSTRONG CIRCLE THEATER" on alternate weeks] and the defection of Sealtest as sponsor caused the show to be cancelled after one season. It was recorded on tape, in "living color", but only a few black & white filmed kinescopes are known to exist of the series.

"THE ENTERTAINERS" was an attempt by Bob Banner and Joe Hamilton {Carol Burnett's husband at the time} in the 1964-'65 season to "transfuse new blood" into the variety show format (using Dinah Shore's show as a model) with three rotating hosts- Carol Burnett [who has NEVER discussed being involved with this show], Bob Newhart, and international singing star Caterina Valente. It was taped in New York, John Davidson and Dom DeLuise were among the regular supporting cast, and it was seen on CBS' Friday night schedule in the fall of 1964, moving to Saturdays in January 1965 (right after "GILLIGAN'S ISLAND" and just before "GUNSMOKE") until it was cancelled that March. Newhart bailed out before the end of '64, with Carol and Caterina co-hosting every show during the final three months. A kinescope featuring guest stars Boris Karloff and Chita Rivera from January 1965 has been available to collectors for a long time [unfortunately, all the commercials and transitions were cut from the kine used], and I believe one of Newhart's "turns" as host {or co-host} is available at the Museum Of Television and Radio. It's very difficult to find all 26 installments..unless Carol has them in HER archives, which I doubt.

Untrue. I have seen NBC's master kinescope list and all of the episodes exist in their archive.
