the artists don't get treated right at all. So many r&b singers and rappers right now are so wack and it's because the record companies are telling these artists what sells and what sells is garbage like sex, materialism, violence. I was having a talk with my father last night about there aren't any r&b singers right now who are singing about the problems in the black community like poverty, unemployment, crime. That's why i love 70's r&b singers so much like The Ojays, The Temptations, The Spinners, Stevie Wonder and other 70's r&b singers that sang about problems in the black community because that stuff is important. Too many r&b singers today are only singing about sex and materialism. Beyonce ain't singing about nothing. Ciara ain't singing about nothing. Rhianna ain't singing about nothing. Ne-Yo, and the rest of these r&b clowns are a joke. Same thing with rappers especially these wack southern rappers like Young Jeezy, T.I., Lil Jon. Remember rappers that rapped about something like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's The Message song, Kurtis Blow's The Breaks song, Run DMC's It's Like That song, Whodini's Friends, Growing Up, One Love songs? Every rap song KRS One does is about something important and educational. Same thing with Public Enemy. But see rappers and r&b singers that talk about stuff that's important, their music doesn't sell because the ignorant black youth that are buying the music now don't wanna be preached to.

I hate seeing rappers with all their "bling" and those nasty "grills" on their teeth. Why don't they spend their money getting dental care and their teeth fixed?

I agree with alot of what you said Isiah, rap definitely isn't like it use to be. I don't even listen to today's rap, because like you and Irene said, all they sing about is their money, women shaking their asses, and their bling bling. (I feel stupid even saying that, LOL!!) It really is an embarrassment, and a disgrace!! In my opinion, rap really started turning into crap once it got into the suburbs, because it originated on the streets, and was totally changed to fit what the wealthy suburban kids could relate to. It really doesn't even remotely resemble what it once was, and that really is a shame.

Pitooey Queen Latifah doesn't do rap albums anymore. The last album she put out a few years ago was a jazz/r&b album with her singing on all of the songs. Ever since she started doing movies and tv, i guess she hasn't had time to do rap albums. I'm not a fan of her music but i like some of her rap songs. Queen has always had rap skills and the thing i like about her rapping skills is that she never promotes sex and she never dressed half naked so her albums could sell. The problem with female rappers today is that they think in order to sell records, they have to dress half naked and talk about sex and materialism all the time. Look at Lil Kim, Trina, Foxy Brown, Jacki-O, Shawnna. These female rappers talk about sex and materialism most of the time and that's what sells. It's a shame that that's what sells but that's the way these record companies are now. Female rappers that have skills like Rah Digga, Heather B, Lady Luck, The Conscious Daughters, Lady Of Rage, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Yo Yo aren't making records anymore because the record companies don't wanna sign females that can rap about something other than sex and materialism. Willie D of rap group Geto Boys has a song called Unbreakable that came out 3 years ago. At the beginning of the song, he talks and he says the fans ain't even buying the records no more for content. They buying images and what they see is what they get LOL. That's so true what he said and that's exactly why rap music sucks right now and it's gonna continue to suck until record companies start realizing that lyrics are more important than talking about sex, violence, materialism.

ISIAH, if you read Pitooy's post closely, she was aksing what happened to Queen Latifah and her LOOKS...not her music!! She didn't recognize Queen Latifah because of how she has dramatically changed her look for the better.
