Default What was up with Marla Gibbs deciding to go for the AFRO LOOK in season 5?-lol

That was not a good look for her at all and she actually had the same Afro as Florida Evans-lol

No, it wasn't a good look for her at all. She looked better with a different, more subtle hair-style. Thank goodness Louise never did the afro thing. Could you picture Louise with an afro? LOL.

Plus she was too old to have a AFRO type of style.

I guess she wanted to do the natural thing for a while. She had the afro in year 4 too. Helen Willis had an afro in the pilot. Some of Florence and Louise's wigs were not too flattering. This was the era before weaves so if they wanted to give their hair a rest from the perm they would just slap a wig on them. Louise's wigs really only got better in the last season; some of the ones before that were just way over the top.

Speaking of hairstyles some of Jenny's short hairdos in the 80s weren't too flattering either, not to mention Roxie Roker's punk rock mohawk in the last season. At least the men didn't fool around with their hair.

That's something I will have to look forward to on TV LAND because my memory of the last season is so foggy

The last year is currently playing in the NY Metro area. Sayonara was on last week and Jenny had a burgundy frizz Afro in that one. Lionel still had the afro (although few men were wearing their afros that high in 1985) and he was inheriting George's receding hairline. It is fun to watch the fashion/hairdos in these old series.

Yeah his Fro wasn't supposed to be that HIGH by 85. atleast have it like Willis had his Fro from Difffrent Strokes in the early 80's

Mike Evans was clearly his own man- he didn't bow to fashion trends. At least he didn't have a gheri curl!

I noticed that Louise's wig was really good in season 5. I think that the stylists really came up to the plate starting with this season (maybe even season 4, too). Her wig in season 2 was terrible. It looked like a brown lion's mane, and it flared out on the ends like the rays of the sun. And her clothes were amazing. They really knew how to dress Louise Mills Jefferson!
