I actually remember watching that ep on CBS at the age of 9

Default LIONEL'S ABSENCE

Where do George and Louise say Lionel is in seasons 5, 8, 9,10, and 11? I've only heard a few references.

They didn't say in season 5 but those other seasons they said he was in Japan.

Yeah that's another one, I don't remember the FIRST LIONEL and Florence ever talking to each other. Just Florence and the 2nd Lionel

You know you're right. Mike Evans' Lionel and Florence had almost no interactions in the series even when he came back in the middle seasons.

Lionel is referred to in the following episodes:

Homecoming Pt 1- Jenny offers Allan a place to stay with her and Lionel
Men of the Cloth- that's when they first say that he's in Japan
Laundry is a Tough Town pt2- Jenny mentions that Lionel is staying in Japan longer than planned and she is going to become a fashion designer
Silver Lining- George mentions hiding something in Lionel's diploma frame
Back to Basiks- When the illiterate guy mouths off to George he tells the young man that he wouldn't let his own son talk to him like that
A New Girl in Town- Florence tells Louise she can't relate to her worrying about her 18 year old cousin because Lionel never ran off to become a mud wrestler.

I haven't seen Jenny's Thesis in years but I'm guessing he's referred to in that show. He's also mentioned but not seen in A Dinner for Harry and the last year 2 episode where George and Louise get into a fight while renewing their vows in the living room.

George makes reference to Lionel in Homecoming Part 1 or 2

Jenny also tells her parents she has to go downstairs to the Jefferson place to get something for Lionel.
