My 20 Year Class Reunion is tomorrow, basically all day. I graduated high school on June 6, 1986, & tomorrow morning at 11:00 am, there is a free cookout at my old high school in the cafeteria. Then at 6:00 pm, my wife & I are supposed to go out to the Country Club for the real Reunion here in town and the real festivities begin. Have supper, '80's music, etc... I'm nervous about attending as I haven't seen these people in 20 years. Also, I feel a little down because as I stated in a different post, I am now disabled. I fell into an open air dye vat at work 4 years ago & burned 80% of my body. I now have constant leg & feet problems & can barely walk from room to room in my house. I am self-conscious about my situation & my appearance, being burned in such a large amount. You can see the scars all over my body. I can't wear socks or shoes at all. can only wear t-shirts for a short time. I can wear shorts only---even in the winter time. And bedroom slippers. No t-shirts when I'm at home inside. I don't go outside much, as the sun will burn me severly, especially my legs because my skin is so tender, as it will make me look tattooed. Meaning all my scars will show up twice as bad. I'm gonna still go, but eventually I will begin to probably feel out of place. I am going to go & try to have a good time, though, as I feel it might do me some good in the end to see some of my old classmates & get out of the house for a while. I hope I don't experience too many physical problems or pain tomorrow & can just have a real good time with my wife & some old friends. I just wish it was under "normal" circumstances, although this is normal to me now. I'm going to do it anyway & try not to get down about some things. Because I will regret it later if I don't go. Anyone else who is going thru some life-changing stuff, just don't ever give up. Keep fighting. Wish me luck tomorrow. I'll tell you how it was when we get back.

I really don't know what tell you. I can certainly understand your being self-conscious and I am proud of you for going even though you have doubts. Sometimes we have to just do it and get over the hurdle. I am sorry that you have had to suffer this thing. I wish you all the best and I hope that you have a great time and were glad that you went.

Of all my reunions, the 20th so far has been my favorite. People still haven't changed that much, but socially they have. I think you should go and have a great time. Your classmates will understand your situation.

I never heard from my 20th class reunion , I probably wouldn't have gone anyway. I hope you have a great time and I'm so sorry about what happened to you.

Just go and have fun, and if they say something nasty so what. They're not worth being friends with. It's what is on the inside that counts.

It started out a little slow, if you know what I mean. Then as the night wore on, we became more comfortable & ended up having a real good time. My class president ended up letting me have the wheelchair he brought for me to use. That was very thoughtful of him. The DJ wasn't very good, tho. But, overall we both had a great time. Thanks.

Glad that you enjoyed yourself. As hard as it is, you should never feel out of place whenever you go somewhere. I've been around a person who had a severe disablilty and there will always be the ones who stare. But there are also the ones who will actually come up and talk to you and treat that person as they would any other person. Those are the good people. I always used to just stare back at the ones who stared. It's always fun to watch them turn around as quick as possible like they were looking at something else!
