Thumbs up The best summer of your life

All this talk Max has brought up about "the simple life" and whatnot got me thinking about the past. And all the good times. And I immediatly thought of the summer of 97'.
It was the summer between 6th and 7th grade, I was only twelve years old, and not one worry in the world. The local youth center was still open. I went there everyday with my friends. Playing pool, airhockey, pingpong, Tekken, or just hanging out with the supervisors.
They must of been Seniors in high school, and I used to think that was OLD. The television was situated on the center wall, so we could play pool while watching/listening to MTV. REMEMBER, this was the last summer that MTV DID NOT have TRL. Carson Daly was no where to be found, and videos played IN FULL pretty much ALL day.
The sodas were only 50 cents out of the soda machine, and it was an "old" soda machine. It had the old Pepsi logo on it, and everything. Aw, this place was great.
The youth center closed down for good at the end of August. I made myself be the last one to leave on the last day. And I was. I have never missed anything as much as I miss that place.
I will be VERY, very surprised if you sat and read this far, but please, feel free to describe the best summer of your life. Cause if you don't, I'll feel pretty pathetic being the only one.

Summer of 1999. That was when I got my first turtle, Shelby. Though she ran away that same year that kept things interesting. Then I got another turtle, Star later that year.
All in all a good year.

Probably any summer up to 1996. We moved when I was 10, and ever since we've moved here my summers have really sucked. (Nothing to do with the moving, though, we only moved up the street and around the corner. Literally.) But before I moved there was this creek behind my house that ran up the entire street and everyone in the neighborhood built built forts and played in it. And everybody was friends with everybody. But now all the people near my house are backstabbing, selfish people who gossip and insult people. The worst thing about them is that they are extremely spoiled, but they're always complaining about how horrible their lives are. Now, I'm spoiled to an extent, but really not as much so. I live in a neighborhood where everyone is pretty well off, but my family isn't as well off as most people here. But I have it a lot better than most people and I realize that. Anyway, from '97 on, I've only liked summer because I didn't have school.

My best summer was probably the summer after I graduated from high school, before I left for college. My friends and I spent about every night together just hanging out and doing a darn good job of forgetting how much our lives were going to change in just a few short months. It seemed that everyone's parents went out of town that summer so that practically every week we had a different place to hang. We had some fun times, and when we get together now we always end up talking about our memories of that summer.

Cokies, no need to feel pathetic. I get nostalgic too.

Without the slightest shadow of a doubt, the summer of 99......

Did nothing til florida vacation, then got rained on every day while going to universal studios, disney, and 'tona. I love it when it rains on vacation......Especially in Florida....rain 5 minutes...stop...rain 5 minutes, etc...

I wont say it was the best summer but it was the memorable it was the summer of 97' i think I was going to 5th grade. My friend malory had this clueless phone where you could change your voice and if you turn it up all the way you start to sound like the scream guy so my brother joey wanted to call people with it and we called my friend ashley's house and talked to her sister and we told her we were in her house and in the van in her front yard and she got real scared so we called bak in our normal voices and asked for ashley and asked for her to come over and she did and then ashley started helpin us scare her sister and we knew what she was wearing and everything and she got so scared she called the police and we called bak and they answered and ashley had to go home and we were grounded a day and we were gonna get prosecuted and stuff.

but later that summer we went to disney world so it was a good summer

Wow, tough question. I like summer so it'd be hard to choose just one. But definitely NOT the summer of 1993. I was at the hospital the whole time because my grandmother was dying. And also the summer of 97 because I didn't go anywhere on vacation due to my grandfather being sick and staying with us. And not last year because my dog died and it was graduation from high school so it was a little depressing leaving friends. Every other summer besides those were good.

I actually can't wait for the summer after senior year. Sounds odd, but I'm looking forward to "moving on", going to college, etc.
Of course, that feeling can totally change by then, and I will deeply miss seeing everyone. Actually, I KNOW I'll miss everyone.
I'm sorry about your dog, it's always horrible hearing about pets dying....

This may sound crazy but My best summer was when I was 13. I had stayed at church camp that year and I knew there was something missing in my life and I wasn't quite sure what it was. So it was July 28 1995 or 1996(not sure which)the youth leaders had took us to this eternity house which shows what heaven and hell looks like. So at first I was cool but then when they took us to see hell which scared me to death and I knew then and there I did not want to go there. Then they take us to see heaven oh it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen in all my life. So then after we seen all that they took us into this little room and ask if there was anyone in this room who would like to pray so I raised my hand. Then they took me to this other little room and I prayed and that was the night that I had gotten saved and it felt like a big burden had been lifted off of my shoulders. I have been a christian since I was 13 years old and now I'm 17. That was the best summer of my life.

Tell me about it--personally, I think it's sadder than humans dying. Thanks for caring Cokies.:-)

Any summer up until the time I was 11 rocked. I lived in the typical suburban (although it's not suburban) neighborhood. My street comprised of several kids my age and the parents would get together during the weekend nights and have a cook out, drink beer, drink beer, drink beer. That basically gave the kids the run of the street! We did some stupid stuff, but it was so much run. We rollerskated, rode bikes, played games that we made up. It was so cool.

Aside from those summers, the best one since was the summer of 2000. Two of my best friends from school and I were all going away during junior year for various trips abroad. I went to DC for fall semester, my MN friend went to France in the spring, and my OH friend went to Spain all year. We basically went over a year w/o seeing each other. Anyway, that summer I got to fly to MN to see the one and my other friend and I went to St. Louis together to see our baseball teams play each other, among other things. Those were two really special trips.

The best summer I ever had, would have to be the summer of '85. It was the last summer I spent with my grandfather. He died in 1986.

That summer my sister and I spent the entire summer with them. In the mornings, we would wake up and go out in the backyard with my grandparents who would be in the swing drinking coffee. We would climb inthe swing with them for about 30 minutes then we would go and fix breakfast. At night, we would play rummekube (sp?), who ever lost the first game would go and fix the popcorn and drinks. It always ended up that my grandparents would pop the popcorn (not the microwave kind) and my sister and I would fix the drinks.

That summer, we also went up to my grandparents lake house. It was always beautiful there. We would sit outside day or night and the animals would come out of the woods right up to you. I loved when the deer would come on out and walk right up to you. It was SO beautiful up there.
While at the lake house, we would go to the golf course. My grandparents would play and they would let us drive the golf carts.
We also went fishing alot. We always went to the same spot. My grandfather used to say that whoever caught the first fish, he would give some money to (I don't remember now how much, it was probably a dollar). Nobody ever caught a fish there. I dont think there were any fish in it, but it sure was great spending time with them.

I sure do miss those summers. Now that I am older, I want my niece and nephew to have summers like I did, and I want them to have as fond memories as I did.
