Default Zodiac/Unabomber Link

I'm sure it's been discussed on the boards before, but I'm curious to see what you all think about the theory that the Unabomber and the Zodiac killer are one and the same. As I've said numerous times before, I'm from Montana and my uncle knew Ted Kaczynski (my uncle has lived in Lincoln, Montana for years and ran into Kaczynski all the time at the post office, of all places...) so this segment has always been of particular interest to me. I know that the link probably isn't true, but some things that compel me to wonder:

1. "I'm an escaped convict from Deer Lodge, Montana." : Montana is a big state, with a few large towns. Deer Lodge is NOT one of them. Basically, the only thing keeping that town in operation is Montana State Prison. For the Zodiac to know the name of an obsolete town like Deer Lodge is pretty hard to ignore.

2. The cryptic cryptograms: It's not quite as compelling as the comment about Deer Lodge, but you can't ignore the fact that Kaczynski was a brilliant mathmatician who is more than capable of sending police these incredibly complex cryptograms to crack.

3. Location, location, location: Kaczynski was in the area at the same time that the Zodiac was in operation in California. The composite sketch of the Zodiac killer is similar to that of Kaczynski. It's not as concrete as it could be, but it's worth consideration.

4. The fact that Zodiac expressed an interest in creating bombs: It's mentioned in the segment that the Zodiac mentioned switching his M.O. to that of explosives. The Zodiac killings stopped... and the Unabomber began. Coincidence?

I'm not saying that I believe that Zodiac and Unabomber are one and the same, but I totally think it's worth consideration. Okay. Rip it to shreds. But be gentle.

Actually, I think Ted was both the Zodiac Killer and the Unabomber. It's been awhile since I've seen the segment, but if I recall, the main argument they had for it not being the same guy was that it would have entailed switching his M.O., and that it would be really unlikely for any criminal to do that. However, I would say not necessarily. Perhaps when he was doing the Zodiac Killings, he thought they might have been on to him, so he switched his M.O. and moved to another state, a much more scarcely populated one at that. Just a thought.

Unabomber had specific targets for a specific reason, dislike of advancing technology. How does that fit in with random teenage couples or a random cab driver?

Both fascinating cases but other than Kaczynski being at Berkleley in the late '60s I see no hint of a connection. I think I also saw a timeline that excluded Kaczynski from the second Zodiac murders and many letters sent thereafter, because it was during a period he was known to be with his brother on a cross country trip, shortly after he resigned from Berkeley.

The intriguing part of the Zodiac case is the radian and Mt Diablo, along with the cryptograms. Incredible at least one of those has yet to be deciphered. Unless it's gibberish, but I doubt that.

I too think the links are interesting, but don't believe there is any real connection. The Zodiac case is so freaking frustrating. Gah!! How can he not be Arthur Leigh Allen?

I actually have a little pet theory that Arthur Leigh Allen was a chimera:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)

That is, he had two different genetic codes, and that is why the DNA on the envelopes did not match DNA from his autopsy. It's not any more far fetched than any other theory, right?

There are alot of interesting connections between Zodiac and Unabomber (location, cryptograms, etc.) but I don't believe they are the same.

Wouldn't have the authorities have found Zodiac memorabilia at Ted's cabin when Ted was arrested?

And, if Unabomber was Zodiac, why wouldn't the Unabomber (Kaczynski) just confess he was Zodiac? He had nothing to loose by confessing.

Just a couple thoughts.

I always thought Arthur Leigh Allen was too much of a bland slob to be Zodiac. I threw him out immediately. Zodiac had style, like writing the message on the victim's car and being calm enough to con the cops in the Presidio. Not to mention the creative letters and crytograms. I envision Arthur Leigh Allen pigging out on a sandwich in his trailer.

That ZodiacKiller.com in a very good site and I almost registered and began posting when that site was in its heyday maybe three years ago, but the guy who runs the site is very abusive on the message boards, especially if you disagree with Arthur Leigh Allen as the perpetrator.
