Default Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan? Who just won the role of Janis Joplin in new biopic?

Spoiler!!!

The answer is neither

HOLLYWOOD - Zooey Deschanel has beaten Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Scarlett Johansson to the coveted role of Janis Joplin in the forthcoming movie biopic of the tragic singer.
Pop-punk singer Pink was originally director Penelope Spheeris' first choice to play the late rocker, but pulled out, blaming the movie's producers for turning the casting process into "some circus pop contest--who's the 'it' girl who wants to play Janis."

However, Almost Famous beauty Deschanel, 26, has signed to play Joplin in The Gospel According to Janis, which starts filming in Philadelphia in November.

“Piece of My Heart” hitmaker Joplin died of a heroin and alcohol overdose in a Hollywood hotel room in October 1970 at the age of 27.

Well at least Pink isn't bitter.

I'm glad they didn't go for a high profile "it" girl. I mean c'mon, does Scarlett Johansson have to be in every movie?
Zooey is a good choice.

Wasn't Rennee Zellweger going to star in a Janis Joplin movie?

I wanted to see them choose the person who had been in the running several years ago: LILI TAYLOR.

She is one fine dramatic actress, who never has gotten her due from Hollywood and isn't one of those "it" girls and can do the job of playing Janis Joplin to heart!!!! LILI WAS ROBBED!!!!!!!http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000666/

I don't know much about Janis but I know Zooey can sing which was proven during Elf and she is a good actress.

I just want to say I adore Zooey Deschanel and all the little quirky indie films shes done. I think she's by far the best choice to go with. Not to meantion, this will probably put her on the map as for Academy Awards, not that she needs it but It's a lovely thing when you deserve it.

She's probably the best talent out there right now. I'm looking forward to this very much.

I like Zooey a lot, but isnt she a bit too, ahhh, pretty to be playing Janice?

Is she going to be all done up in prosethetics and such, because she looks nothing like her.

I think Lili Taylor would be the best choice, if you ever saw her in Say Anything, you know she could hone in on that rock vibe.

I completely agree. Lili is beyond amazing. She's one of my all-time favorite actresses. Unfortunately, she's constantly robbed in the business, even though she has more talent than half the people in it.

Zooey is going to have some shoes to fill when it comes to this part. Lili would have been perfect. It's not abt the singing (which Lili felt would end up happening when this movie is going to be made) but the whole persona of Janis and her life. Lili wants Janice's life told, there was more to Janice than singing. Not only that, Janice looked way older than what age she actually was, due to heavy drinking and drug use. Lili would have fit the part nicely. Too bad. Hollywood messed up big time here.
