Default When you were a trading virgin.....what was

What was your FIRST.

Stretch your minds, stretch your memory.

What was your first trade?

Do you know who or how it came about?

Do you still trade them?

- I was emailed by someone, they are on their first trade, ever- and they wanted some advice and it made me think about my first trade.

Mine was, VHS- And I traded 3 tapes of my Jack benny episodes for 3 tapes worth of Burns and Allen- because at the time I had all the retail tapes, and was told there was 300 + episodes so that was my first search.
The lady I traded was Elizabeth Jenns, from CA
and she was really nice. We traded 3-4 times after that-
and I decided to create a little website for trading. This was mainly on campus and mainly it was a lending library so to speak- you posted what you had, and were willing to get rid of, and tapes were traded that way.
It didn't spread till copying till much later as not everyone had machines back then.
I was hooked. The enjoyement of cideo collecting/watching was no longer overwhelmed by the cost.
Since back then retail tapes were 29.99 a piece usually
and machines, good machines were hundreds of dollars.

I was hooked.

Still am.

So I was thinking---back to my first. And how giddy i felt, how big a world it was, how there were so many things I wanted, and the utter eagerness and excitement i had.
And how great it was as it developed from the little website, to my first yahoo site- to my private site- and finding this site and so on.
The world of trading has evolved, but the excitment and fun never went away.
But nothing quite like that first trade...

My first real trade was with an "email pal". She'd never traded before, either. But she had 110 episodes of Marshall Hollywood Squares I was lusting after & I'd bought some shows on eBay that she wanted. So we did a trade.

That was back in the "olden days" when you'd trade VHS tapes. Anyway, I loved getting those shows & that's why I persued the hobby. When I think back, I think it's really amazing what I've been able to accumulate.

My loss of virginity and trading virginity coincide, as I traded 2 VHS tapes to a hooker for services. Seriously, I believe I traded poorly dubbed episodes of the Honeymooners off of TV.

I had bought several items from Ebay and then was hooked up to the yahoo forums by someone I had bought many items from.

Some good traders on Yahoo but I would say that 90% of any bad trades also came off of that forum. I found this forum to have the best upto date information and recommend it to any good traders that I deal with.

I had been trading otr for years with a chap in Ottawa, named Forrest. One day he told me he had a vcd and I had no ideas what that was. He explained it to me and how to make them and I was hooked. Still trade with him. Great guy.

i think my first trade was with jay--neuroslicer

i remeber i got some of one of the star trek next gen sets in swap for another bunch of star trek ones

i remember that i had about 6 bad trades in my first 10 encounters

boy howdy did i get abused there for a while

my first dvd deal was with a real piece of garbage--clarence mathews-- on yahoo auction at the time, i got a seaquest set, well some of it anyhow, i later found the rest of it in another deal

it was a very steep learning curve for me in the startup phase

Music 30 Years, Went by like a flash

I really never traded till about a year or 2 ago. I used to just tape shows myself or buy them. But my very first trade came about 31 years ago when I was in high school. I traded my X Minus One shows and Suspense radio shows for Shadow and Sherlock Holmes shows. This was old time radio show tapes I'm talking about. Then 30 years went by till I did my next trade for a My 3 Sons TV show. So I guess you could say I wasn't exactly hooked on trading if I can let 30 years pass without a second trade. But when a trade works out the way it should, when you get what you're supposed to get, then there's nothing nicer. Otherwise, I must admit, having to scrounge around and weedle and deedle with a 1/2 dozen different traders in order to complete a set is not my favorite activity. I also don't enjoy going thru each disc, one by one, show by show to make sure all episodes are really there. But if you don't you'll never know for sure it's complete. In fact there are times I'd like to go back to just taping my own shows. Trouble with that plan is the cable channels of today aren't showing the shows I'd like to tape. Anything past 1975 is something I pass on. So not many cable channels today show the old programs I want.

My first trade was for a complete set of Just the Ten of Us. It came about through SO, and I still trade them.

I heard your first trade was with Moses when you were in high school---- u traded him Commandments 1-5 for a vhs copy of Commandments 6 -10

my first swap was 45 chickens on the front lawn for a sheep

in all seriousness my first trade came about by accident
i always taped stuff for myself
and i had bought a set of something (off ebay, dont recall what now) and the guy emailed me and said
PS IF U WOULD RATHER TRADE LET ME KNOW
i had never even thought of it before, so i saved some $$ and traded

When I read Savage's thread, I thought it to mean your first good trade. Moses sent me a second generation tape, telling me the quality was a 9.00 and it was no better then a 6.00. The end credits were cut and I wanted the commercial with Noah pushing the 450 BC studabaker. I put him the bad trader section. Since then he moved his family to Louden, Tennessee.

Harvey who gets stiffed quite frequently.
