I knew an Ashley in school, and Ashley Parker Angel is a male singer. He used to be in a boy band too, so his name was pretty much perfect for that lol!

I also knew a guy named Kelly.

Names like Ashley, Shannon, Kelly, Leslie, Terry, Tracey, and Taylor were once considered masculine names, but now there are many more girls with those names.

In the UK, Ashley has always been a boy's name (although people are starting to name girls Ashley as well, in the UK.)

In fact, Barry Gibb's second son is called Ashley (he was born in 1977.)

In the UK, Leslie is a boy's name, and there is a female version - Lesley.

Exactly. That's how I first encountered the name.
