For those of you who didn't know, CD's wasn't invented until 1992. CD's used to be more bigger and were called records and were played with a record player, does anybody have one? I don't have one but I want one coz I'm so curious to know how they work/what its like, i've never really seen one in real life
just in the movies.

And yes, I've seen them. I own a few records. When I was growing up, my parents had a LP player (that's another name for the record player) and a lot of LPs for it. I think they finally got rid of it sometime around 1991 or 1992, because it was around the time they purchased an actual top-of-the-line home theater system that used cassettes and CDs instead of LPs. I also had a Fisher-Price record player toy when I was a kid in the 80's... I still have it. Dunno where it is, though. It looked like this one. |

I remember my parents had one in about 1994. They never used it, and I have no idea where it is now.

My parents had a record player when I was growing up, and they liked listening to an album or two from time to time.
Then we got indoor plumbing and Lincoln was shot.

We have a record player at home (another name for them is turntable.) I play it quite frequently - my parents have a large collection of records. The sound and quality are both really good.
CDs are good, but never underestimate the record player!

I don't have one, but I'm pretty sure my Dad has one buried somewhere in the garage, along with all of his old LP's and 45 singles!

Yes I own one. I was too curious about records so I bought a new record player. A really great investment, not.

Well if you have LPs (or 45s) it would be a good investment. If not I dont know why anyone would want one now, unless its just for nostalgia purposes.

Actually, Bruce Springsteen's 1984 album Born In The USA was the first album released on CD for the public to buy. CDs started to become really popular by 1987 and in May 1988 CDs were selling as much as records. By 1992 records were no longer. |

Yup, I have one and I love it!
It's not a vintage one--it's one of the recent models that P.C. Richards put out a year or two ago (has a radio and c.d. player built in too!) It has a very retro feel to it, though...now I can play all my records from the 70's that my parents own

My roommate was going to buy a turntable last year.
One of his favorite bands (Wilco) released their latest album on vinyl and he bought a copy. I talked him out of it. We already have enough electronic stuff we don't use. |

I have a record player, and I love it. Admittedly, vinyl LPs are not as convenient as CDs (which I have an abundance of), but a well-mastered and well-pressed record, when taken care of properly, sounds better than its digital counterpart on a good system.
