Gloria, defiantly the best funniest and freshest of them.

I went with the Jeffersons. The two Gloria episodes I saw were terrible. I can"t stand Maude just as much as Archie can. I have never seen 704, but I am sure it wasn't great.

well

MAUDE was so shocking at the time --- but has not aged so well
JEFFERSONS was not as topical, or political so it holds up better

GLORIA was ok, but just 10 years too late

and 704 HAUSER was a great show--- i loved it, but by the time it came out, THAT KIND of humor was not watched anymore!

Default 704 HAUSER

was a BRILLIANT concept

an exact reversal of the all in the family

what happened was

ARCHIE sold his house to a Black family

JOHN AMOS played the dad

the roles were reversed
the DAD was a liberal
and the SON was a conservative

a BLACK CONSERVATIVE at that

and they had the same fights BUT REVERSED
to reflect the political changes of the Reagan era

even JOEY STIVIC showed up in the pilot to visit GRANDPAS OLD HOUSE!
it was a pretty good idea and witty
but lasted like 2 months

Default i voted

for MAUDE

it was so shocking at the time, it was realllll controversial
it has NOT aged as well, b/c so much of the humor was so topical

BUT i loved it

THE JEFFERSONS was the biggest hit--- but to be honest, it was realllly just a typical sitcom, no real "Bite" to it in my book
BUT well done and funny

That sounds really interesting! Why do you think it had such a short life?

a few reasons that it flopped

1. it was not well promoted
2. the climate of tv sitcoms had changed by then-- political sitcoms that were topical were no longer welcome and people wanted cosby/family ties--- feel good shows
3. people did not get it

I guess John Amos and Norman Lear had mended fences by then, I think on the first episode Amos slammed the door in Joey's face.

Also Amos's son dated a white girl as well leading to more controversy. I thought it was pretty good too.
