I have wondered about this case. This was profiled on UM today and it was the first time I had ever seen it and I found it interesting. This guy targeted Sacramento, California and a neighboring county of Sacramento in the 1970's. This guy was so unusual yet very cunning. About how he would tie the victim up and then sit in the house for hours afterwards smoking cigarettes, drinking and sometimes even eating before he would rape the victim and then leave. What was really creepy was when the cops held that town meeting and the one guy in the crowd said the rapist wouldnt attack him or his wife and then that same night that guy and his wife became victims. Wow. As the cops said in the segment, they think the rapist was actually at the meeting and when he heard that guy say what he said he followed that couple home, stalked out the location and attacked.
You could tell his behavior was escalating especially when he started attacking even when he knew for sure a man was present in the house something I have never really heard of another rapist doing. That little trait he had of putting plates on top of the tied up male so that he would know if the male was moving around too much because the plates would fall off was definitly a trade mark of his. Around 1980 he moved to Southern California it looks like. Obviously with his rapes and murders down there, then after 1986 he went quiet. Could be that he died, or is in prison for another offense or that he moved somewhere else. I think California should pass a law that forces all prison inmates to submit a DNA sample. They could tell if it was him then that was in prison. Does anyone have any opinions on this guy? Any ideas as to who he is or who he could be? |

Hey Garrett, thanks for the links! I found them quite useful and learned some stuff I didnt know before. I remember it said in the segment that he called one of his victims after the rape. But I didnt know it was in the early 90's that he did that! They think he actually might have a family because when he called the victim she said she could hear children and a woman in the background. Personally, I dont think he is in prison and I dont think he has ever been in prison. I think what he probably did was move to a different area and he is probably doing this same stuff somewhere else.

Hey Garrett, no problem man, glad to see you back on and hope to talk to you on MSN again once your repairs are complete. I am trying to think of where this guy could have gone after California. They said he actually took a 5 year break in the 80's where he didnt kill that they know of and then suddenly in 86 he popped up again. He could have gone somewhere else or maybe gone to prison at that time but I doubt it. He probably went to a completely different part of the country and did this same stuff there. Or maybe he only went to Arizona or Nevada? Also Garrett, I posted in the update section stuff on Richard Bare, he was the man who pushed Sherry Hart off a cliff in 1984 because she wasnt interested in his sexual advances. He escaped from jail in 1985 and has been on the run since. Supposedly he has been dressing as a woman the last few years to escape capture.

The East Area Rapist/ Original Night Stalker is an interesting perpetrator. Law enforcement believe the perpetrator committed the series of rapes at a young age (late teens or early 20s). He may have attended college and after graduating progressed to serial murder. Studying may have occupied the perpetrator's mind throughout the early 1980s. He may have attended a college in Southern California. Law enforcement believe his modus operandi in the rapes and murders exhibited sophistication and planning. Criminal Psychologists equate the level of sophistication and refinement to a perpetrator who possesses at least an undergraduate degree.
I believe the perpetrator does not have a criminal record. A sadistic psychopath is adept at concealing violent fantasies. Its possible relatives and friends are not aware of the manipulative, controlling and domineering traits of the perpetrator's personality. It allows the perpetrator to avoid apprehension. He would be in his early to mid 50s today. |

Very good link: http://jjmcgr.googlepages.com/home
This guy is a poster on the A&E discussion board who has done tons of research on this case. IMO he gets too cute differentiating some of the incidents based on supposed changes in MO and therefore deciding there were multiple perps including copycats, but overall he has done a fantastic job putting a lot of info in a convenient place. |
