Forgive me if it's already been mentioned but this one has always intrigued me.I guess it aired between 91-93.All I remember is there were two fires. One in 1974 and one I think in 84 or so.Autopsy results showed that the man who died in 84's fire was also the victim of the 74 fire. It's perplexing and I swear I've seen this episode but have only seen it once.No reruns.Nada.At least I haven't seen any.Love to see this one again.Anyone remember this I hope?

Great segment here. One of the weirdest of the weird. I love how every family member and freind has their own theory about that became of Clarence and none of them share the same opinion. Another mystery that will never be solved.

To be specific, the years were 1970 and 1980. Some that knew him believe he survived BOTH fires. They seem to be pretty certain that the wife died in the 1980 fire. It was speculated by some that Clarence murdered a vagrant and that was who died in the 1970 fire, although Clarence would have liked people to think it was him who died instead. It might have been hard to tell as the remains were likely charred beyond recognition, making a positive identification more difficult. The wife was thought to have been hiding out a man in the house shortly before the 1980 fire, many believe it was Clarence.

My personal theory is he died in the second fire... But the more you think about it, the weirder the story is!

There is no way that Clarence Roberts was killed in the first fire. In fact, although the body in the first fire was burned beyond recognition, tests revealed that it didn't share Clarence's blood type.

This was a very interesting story. About 2 years ago, I spoke with a relative of Geneva Roberts. She said that it is now believed that Clarence killed a vagrant and placed him in the first fire in order to make him appear to be dead. Why the first man was ever believed to be Clarence is beyond me because the blood type didn't match! For many years, Geneva hid Clarence, in hopes of getting the insurance money. It was denied due to the lack of positive identification of the body. Of course several years later the two died in another fire. This particular family member felt it wasn't Clarence or Geneva that started it .. she believed it was someone else .. possibly with the family or a friend. Others in the family actually still believe Clarence died in the first fire .. and some believe he still lives today.

Did Clarence and Geneva have any children? If so, where are they in all of this? Just curious...
