Question Anyone here shop at the dollar store, Goodwill, Flea Markets, garage sales, etc.??

I admit, I do all the time. You can find great stuff for really cheap like school equipment (for the kids), Christmas wrapping paper, birthday cards Christmas cards, snacks, chords and electronics for your tv/vcr/dvd player, you name it, they've got it, and it's all only a dollar. The stuff is all high quality too. They have name brands of everything, and their stuff works just as well as anything you can get at a regular store, only it's much cheaper. Another thing that's cool about dollar stores, is that they're every bit as clean as a real store, so you don't feel uncomfortable there. Do any of you ever shop at the dollar store?? What kind of stuff do you usually buy??

I've never shopped at a dollar store, but from your description of it, I should probably check it out one of these days.

Yep, I saw some beautiful dishes today while there, and was actually tempted to buy some. Unfortunately though, we already have about 10 million dishes in our kitchen, so I decided not to get anymore. I also like to shop at thrift stores, and garage sales. They're not as clean as regular stores, but you can find really cool, hard to find stuff that you can't find anywhere else. Goodwill is actually alot more cleaner now then it was when I was a kid. Not quite, but almost as clean as a regular store. The ones around here are anyway.

I've shopped dollar stores a lot. Some around here aren't everything is only a dollar though, so you have to watch. I've found some stuff cheaper at Wal-Mart than at the dollar store.

Great place to pick up old VHS's. I got a ten tape collection of Rocky and Bullwinkle for I think 15 dollars. When they came out they were 15 dollars a piece. I also got a bunch of old Nickelodeon tapes there too. I don't watch them, but I like knowing I have them.

I don't shop at dollar stores, but thrift stores.... OH MY GOD I LOVE THRIFT STORES. Seriously.

I can never find any decent clothes at the thrift stores around here (bummer). There is this GIGANTIC thrift store about a mile away from me, and it's just HUGE. They have furniture, shoes, luggage, clothes, kitchen items, books, everything you would find at a thrift store, but it is HUGE HUGE HUGE. I can't believe their selection of shoes -- HUGE!!!!!!!! They also have a HUGE selection of blankets and drapes for your home. Their book selection could use work, though. I wish I lived closer to that thrift store, because I think I would live there.

Meanwhile, I just settle for living a few blocks away from this AWESOME used bookstore. The owner knows me there by name, because I come in all the time. I've found some real gems there- I got a practically brand-new first-edition hardcover copy (w/ original dustjacket!) of Rock Hudson's autobiography, from 1986, for 25 cents. I've gotten an almost brand-new first-edition copy of Marilu Henner's autobiography from 1994 for $1. The used bookstore has a lot of vintage books from the 1940's and earlier, which I think is just cool. Stephen King books are in demand at that bookstore- I found a really nice copy of Insomnia there that I got for free, because I traded in some of my old books.

My god...I LOVE flea markets and garage sales. Unfortunately, they only have the flea market here once a month. I wish I could go to more garage sales, they're awesome.

Occasionally, for certain things. For example yesterday I bought a notebook and a planner at the Dollar Store. The whole thing came out to two bucks and 17 cents (Incl. tax). To buy the same items at a stationery store would probably be at least double the price. There are some things worth buying at a dollar store.

I'll go to the Dollar Store for novelty items. For example, for my husband's grandchildren, I'll buy a plastic trick or treat bag there. I'll buy all sorts of Halloween stuff to fill it with....crazy eyeglasses, goblin flashlights, lighted musical pins, all sorts of stuff.

I do the same thing for Easter. I can fill a basket with so much stuff from the Dollar Store.

My mom does that too for all the Holidays. She always makes baskets for everyone of all kinds of cool stuff. You should hear her everytime I'm out with her, she's like: you wanna go to the dollar store, you wanna go to the dollar store?? She's so funny!!!

Thrift Stores!!!!!! Bargains, great finds...God, I have found some of the greatest items for my house in thrift stores. So many people think thrift stores are cheap, broken down items. WRONG! I have seen new items in the store. They are stuff from stores that need to get rid of inventory, they may have a slight scratch or flaw that is barely noticeable.

One man's junk is another man's treasure!
