Default What did the TV Guide Critic mean whe he said the Edith Character was only seen

Ocassionally during season 1? Wasn't she still living in the House?-lol How can a character who lives in the same house as the main character be seen only occasionally?

Yes Edith was still around in ABP's first season. But she only appeared in four episodes. One of these episodes was a two parter where Mike,Gloria and Joey come to the Bunkers for Thanksgiving(unexpectedley, this was the last time the original four main characters would be together).
Jean Stapleton apparently wasn't up to remaining in the Edith role for another five years. She planned to explore other venues in the entertainment field. So she wasn't always available to play Edith during season 1.By the following season,Jean Stapleton left the show completely and Edith died of a stroke in her sleep.
Hope this information helps.

Well if that's the case then Her character shouldn't have been on the show at all

During the first season ABP didn't have many episodes set at the house which is how they got around it .

There was an ep. or two in which it was explained that she was at the Sunshine Home working (which is odd because she was never rehired onscreen after the "AITF" ep. in which she willingly let a patient die in the home after the patient made it clear that she wanted to die and was fired).

There was also an episode where Edith got a new job in a phychiatric ward.It was there that she was occasionally explained to have been, not the Sunshine Home.

they just focused on other areas of Archies life

most episodes centered around the bar and the house was only used occasionally
