Hey i no that in the eailer 70's Good Times, Jeffersons and sanford and son where ok comedies, but some people would say that you cannot put good times in the same catogry as jeffersons and sanford because some of them that i spoke with has told me that you if look at both george and fred they where both business men meaning one was in the junk business and the other owned his own clearners store and even though fred never actually sold anything he still had money and if you looked at george who lived next store to archie bunker he moved up to the big city and lived in the pinthouse,
and with the evans there was always a delima and something was time after time holding them back, and most folks would see that geroge did moved up and fred was never struggled.

YES they have different financial categories

my thoughts-- SANFORD Is classic
will still be on 50 years from now
JEFFERSONS was strong for the first year or 2, then it became just another silly sitcom

GOOD TIMES was a SUPER STRONG SHOW for the first 2 years and went downhill fast

BY THE END Good times and jeffersons were cartoonish and dull

I like all 3 shows in their own way, with Sanford and Son probably being my favorite out the three. But, you have to admit, the last 2 seasons of that were cartoonish and dull too. Like that stupid elephant and horse episode. Season 5 was crappy.

Aunt Esther eventually killed Sanford and Son, because her temper just seemed to unrealistic, and then the writing seemed to get tired. For example, I saw part of that episode the other day with Fred and the diamonds.

Meanwhile, Good Times gets annoying towards the end whenever the audience claps so loud while JJ is trying to utter a word, whether it's funny or not.

These three black sitcoms had their moments of being a bit annoying, but they also have many more moments that make you consider them classic TV. I don't think they are in different "leagues". To me, the best of each show was:
Sanford and Son -- the episodes with Julio and overall up until Redd Foxx's hiatus (Bud Yorkin leaves near this point)
The Jeffersons -- the first season
Good Times -- by far best in its second season when James was in every episode and JJ was only beginning to become the reason Amos and Rolle eventually leave the show

Right, now if you want to talk about a black sitcom in a Different league, that would be the 1974 sitcom-"That's My Mama"-lol It was DRY from ep 1 to 39
