A belated Happy Birthday goes out to writer-producer-humorist Stan Freberg.
The voice of such cartoon characters as Junyer Bear and Pete Puma (and puppets Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent and Dishonest John) turned 80 on Monday.

"The Thanksgiving Story" (a.k.a. "Under the Double Turkey") is from Stan's
1961 classic LP "STAN FREBERG PRESENTS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," a very funny record. (But then almost everything Stan did was hilarious.) |

...the follow-up to his autobiography, IT ONLY HURTS WHEN I LAUGH. I hope Mr. Freberg did have a happy 80th birthday, anyway!

Yes, Stan was the voice of both gophers (Mac and Tosh), and he voiced Bertie
... but Mel Blanc was Hubie's voice. |

"The Goofy Gophers" were voiced by Freberg (the polite one) AND Blanc (the frantic one). I don't recall Stan voicing BOTH of them in the same cartoon.

You are absolutely correct. In his autobiography, "THAT'S NOT ALL FOLKS!"
(1989), Mel states that he played opposite Stan in the Goofy Gopher cartoons. |
