Before 1979, The Trio was presented in a way that was consistent to their characters on the show like when they are just on the beach together at the ending credits. It was platonic looking just like it was on the show. But all of a sudden in 1979, The way Jack is walking with Janet and Chrissy on the Pier makes it look like they are his play toys-lol I mean what was up with the closing credits of season 4 and 5 with Janet and Chrissy walking with their head on Jack's Shoulder. That wasn't consistent to what we saw on the show at all. And it continues in seasons 6 to 8 with Jack walking with his arms around Terri and janet IN FRONT of Furley. So I just wish can ask Ted the producer why did they get away from the Platonic look of the trio after 1979 when on the show they are never ALL over Jack like that.

I didn't see the trio being anything but friends and at times "brotherly/sisterly like"...I have had male friends and i have put my head on their shoulders for whatever reason...or they would give me a hug...it may look like something else to everyone else, but it's all abt friendship and the closeness. That is what the trio shared. I mean, they all lived together, they saw each other at their best and at their worst.

You got to look at the whole picture. They were at the boardwalk. It's not like they were going to care who was looking and wondering "Hmmmm". At the boardwalk you see all kinds of people and no one gawks or wonders at the people. If I seen a guy walking with two girls, arm in arm, that wouldn't make me turn my head or make me wonder. And since we know the trio and the fact that they live together and are friends and they love each other as family, then what is the problem? nothing. |

I really don't think it was intended to look anything but platonic. Like Irene said, I have platonic guy friends and we sometimes hold hands and I'll put my head on their shoulder every now and then, no big deal. Now if Jack and the girls were making out, I could see your point, but them walking together like that is totally innocent. Them being in front of Furley was no big deal either, after all, Furley knew that they were close friends, he probably thought nothing of it.

I see what you're saying about the credits, but I think it actually is pretty consistant with the actual show. If you look at the way Jack and the girls kiss each other whenever they share good news (like someone getting a new job, etc.) they're showing that the three are "close" but not "THAT close".
It also conveys more of a happy feeling, I think, than a romantic one.I always accepted it as the three of them were supposed to be best friends (not to ignore Larry of course). So given they live together, AND are single, the light hugging and kissing shows there closeness and how close Jack is to that line, yet so far... |

But Furley would usually say something on the show if the Trio was too affectonate toward each other |

Hmmm.. Interesting question. I never thought about it before, but I guess it could be taken many ways.
I do have guy friends that I hold hands with. I believe that the opening credits were more of a prelude to showing that they were close in real life, not a portrayl of the characters on the show. More or less that they were close in real life and then the characters were far apart. Not sure if this makes one bit of sense or not. LOL!! |

Men and women can be very close friends, hold hands, hug...I see no problem there. Do you? Oh my, look who I'm asking

I haven't viewed the girls and Jack as anything other than platonic. In the closing credits, they're going back home after a day at the pier and they look tired so the girls rest their head on Jacks shoulder perfectly innocent.

I just found it odd that Cindy replaced Chrissy and the opening credits remained the same. It should've changed to accomodate the changes on the show.
