Default Kellys Kids

Finally decided to watch this one even though I hate it. Didn't realize that was Bobby's brother ("Matt")! HA! Anyway, yes the episode is fairly bad but actually for the era it may have been a good "concept" for a show but of course the chemistry wasn't there and the whole thing fell apart, mostly for casting reasons though. There would have some decent story ideas had this gone anywhere. One thing that struck me was; was it just me or was Ken Berry trying VERY VERY hard to act like Mike Brady? Even tries a lot of the nuances and I found it sort of strange, of course there is only ONE Robert Reed, KEN!

Had this been a real show though I think all three should have been adopted at once. It seems sort of reckless to adopt TWO MORE kids so they could be the Three Musketeers. Not to mention expensive. I think Kellys Rainbow would have been a better name if it went on to be a show, and recast the whole thing except Todd Lookinland (Matt). Todd seemed a lot like Bobby

Good call Buddy!

The undertone predjudice concept created by the bigot neighbor Mrs. Payne just didn't do it for me. That kind of stuff is hilarious on a show like All in the Family which was huge in the ratings at that time. But The Brady's were too "morally right" to take on such a challenge. The concept of "Kelly's Kids" might have worked better as a new pilot series and NOT an added "Brady Bunch" episode.

Stud,

Please check my created DVD Scenes Restoration Thread. There is a link inside that you can click on that will take you to where the DVD Scene restoration thread is on the board. (Scroll about halfway down.) You should find it there.

I thought it was a set up for a new pilot that never made it. I would've watched.

It was the pilot for an unsold series. I, too, think that it would have made an
interesting series.

I don't think that the racial prejudice issue is TOO much of a jump. After all, their earlier episodes were about prejudice against people who lisp, people with glasses/braces, homely Molly, and people with big bruised noses. The racial aspect, to me anyway, is just a more socially significant one, but the idea has always been there.

I like the Archie Bunker refrence. When the mom says she makes Archie Bunker look like a liberal.

Yea, I thought it was odd though if they were on rival networks.

Default You never saw... or did you?

Am I the only one who noticed that in the bathrooom scene in Kelly's Kids you can quite clearly see a toilet tank?

This particular episode was on TV Land the other night, and It was so boring, I turned it off and went to bed.

Kelly was the surname of Ken Berry and Brooke Bundy's characters. The name "Kelly's Kids" was to keep the smooth flowing sound of a title, just like "Brady Bunch".
