Great list with the exception of Carrol Burnett, I just can't find her funny. I have tried watching her show but I just can't enjoy her. If I rearrange the order a little bit and add Don Rickles and Phil Silvers in there and take Carrol Burnett out and I say my list would be the same as yours.

I can't believe I left Chris Rock off. He would be on my list before Dave Chappelle. I do like Chappelle, but Chris Rock is better.

Wow.
Carol Burnett is my favorite of all time! She's hilarious.
To each his own, I guess.

I forgot Phil Silvers, one of the best comics from the fifties (and possibly of all
time). I also like Don Rickles. I haven't really seen Carol Burnett's classic show
too many times myself but liked the few I have seen (albeit in their chopped up,
syndicated form); and I thought that I should include at least two funny women
in my list.

I only included solo acts, but if we are going to bring comedy teams in (as some other posters have), then I would have to include (in order of preference):

The Three Stooges
Laurel & Hardy
Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis
Abbott & Costello
Rowan & Martin
Stiller & Meara
Burns & Schreiber
The Marx Brothers
Burns & Allen

(I omitted Bob Hope & Bing Crosby because--as Leonard Maltin pointed out in his book MOVIE
COMEDY TEAMS--they were not really a team per se; they were just two stars who happened
to work together from time to time.)

Lol

Well, it's a no-brainer who my favorite is...
Jerry Seinfeld of course! Absolutely the best in my opinion!
Second would be Gary Shandling (just watched his 1984 special "Alone in Las Vegas".... what a riot! ) Just curious... I've noticed he's done quite a few movies and wondered if he still does stand up or not? Anyone know?
Dave Chappelle is hilarious
Mario Joyner is another fave. Saw him open for Jerry Seinfeld in 1995 and I was laughing so hard by the time he finished his set that I was sure I would bust a gut by the time Jerry was done!
George Carlin (sad to think he's no longer with us.... )
Bill Cosby
Ellen DeGeneres

Oh wow, it's been DECADES since I last read that book. And I remember Maltin making that observation. MCT was one of this first books on film history I ever read. (The very first was William K. Everson's The Films of Laurel and Hardy.)
