Default Florida Killed James

Does anyone else find it ironic that when James was on the show, every single time he came upon an opportunity to finally get his family out of the ghetto, Florida found some way to knock it down. She didn't mind him working two or three jobs at a time, not getting any sleep, and still barely having enough to make ends meet. She was so caught up in her Holier than Thou attitude, that she never gave the family a chance to get ahead. Like when she made him turn down that job where he would have been gone for a year to Alaska. The money he made in that one year would have gotten them out of the ghetto, but Florida didn't want him to leave. It's ironic that all of that hard work James did for his family, he never got to see any of the benefits of living the good life.

that really irritated me when florida whined and griped about that alaska job i can see maybe her not wanting jaames to take jobs that might have been somewhat questionable or downright shady but this job in alaska was a great opportunay for the whole family and she still whined if i had been james i would have just told her you can stay here and whine im heading for alaska. knowing james i was always shocked that he didnt do that

Florida didn't like money. I don't know which situation was worse, her not wanting James to go to Alaska, or her not wanting to do a TV commercial that was going to pay her preachy ass $5,000.

Florida didn't make James do anything. James CHOSE NOT to do any of those Jobs. Florida didn't like the fact that James would be gone for a whole year. And when James saw what kinda gig his friends was pulling with the whole church thing, James CHOSE NOT to go along with that scheme.

If you all watch the show you would see that James was still going to go to Alaska until Michael came home all torn up from fighting, And James was going to go ahead with his friend until he saw what kinda jive his friend was pulling witht the whole healing pick schick. So don't blame Florida blame James.

What about when she made him give back all that money he found in the alley because she said it was stealing. How is it stealing if you find some money in an alley? She actually tried to compare it to letting Thelma go prostitute herself on a street corner. And I can see if, in the end, the family ended up making it out by doing things HER WAY (the Christian way) but James ended up dying and the only reason the family made it out was because Thelma married a pro-football player. And for all her Christian values and preaching, she sure didn't mind playing the lottery on that one episode where those girls tried to rob them. Isn't that gambling?

It's stealing when you know who the money belongs to and you don't return it, Even if you don't know who the money belongs to you should still turn it over to the police. Yes he should have returned the money, it wasn't his to keep, no matter who it belonged to or how rich the person or company was.

I always felt bad that James worked hard all his life and mostly in recent years to get his family out of the ghetto. Yet, he's not around to see them get out of it.

I don't know if Florida killed James because of what she did, but I was certainly annoyed with her when she'd get in one of her moods. lol

Why couldn't they become a two-income family? Did Florida ever try to get a job (while James was alive)? I know J.J. eventually got a job at that Chicken restaurant but what about Florida?

I hated that they killed James off, but it would be out of character for him to just leave the family.

Yes Florida finally got a job at a clothing store, I believe it was a clothing store, I can't remember if they ever stated what kinda place she worked at.

I wouldn't say that, ultimately James made the decisions on his own but Florida did have some bearing on him. She didn't always think pratically about things.

First Florida was saying it was too far away. Then Willona ruined it more by mentioning the entertainment. Florida mentioned this to James, but she stated that she trusted James, however she turns and shows him a letter he wrote when he left town looking for a job and it was a ten page letter. He was only gone for less than two days. She told him, what's he going to do when he is gone for a year??? So, she had several things going on in her head as to why he should not leave to Alaska. Within a couple of months, he could have gotten the family out of the projects and into a nice apartment or a very small house to rent and the family could have lived there rather than the DANGEROUS PROJECTS, as was mentioned so many damn times. Sure Michael got into a scuffle with some bad kids, but still, it happened, and it happened with JAMES AROUND. So, you can't stop everything bad that may happen. James blew it. Florida would have thought of a few more reasons to keep him home.

Ya'll are trying to make it out to be Florida's fault for James not taking the job in Alaska, it wasn't her fault at all it was James' fault. What spouse would want their other spouse to go away for a year when they haven't been apart for 20 something odd years, and the time that they were apart was only for 2 days. James chose not to go to Alaska, he could have gone if he really wanted to. Florida didn't have a choke chain around his neck. You don't always agree with your spouse on things. James could have gone to Alaska but he didn't go, at the end it was all up to him and he chose to stay home with his family. PLUS it would have been dumb to have James go to Alaska if he was still on the show.
