Default June should have had friends

Her life revolved around Wally, Beaver, and Ward. Ward even had friends. I felt bad for her because she was the only female in the house, and on the show, it was an all male problem. So basically, she was there to cook meals and tuck everyone in. Whenever there was a problem, Ward had to deal with it. She had no say so. She had no social life. All she ever talked about was her boys. I know this was the 50's, was but moms of the 50's had to live too. They should have shown June hanging with some people next door or them coming over once in a while.

that's why i actually wrote a whole fanfic a LONG LONG time ago when i used to have the time to sit down and write fanfics about june dealing with a girls problem in a girls world... it was like a niece of her's i believe... and i think in another one it was a girlfriend of wally's... but i think she would have made a good person to go to with problems... especially more of the teenage problems...

I remember June having friends. Didn't she have a Sunday womens meeting or something like that? And she and Ward were always going out to see their friends...the thing that bugged me about June was that she never handled the boys' problems by herself. If either of them had a problem, she would say, "Wait for your father to get home." It wasn't as if Ward always had to be the one who talked to the boys--I remember him saying on a few occasions, "June, why couldn't you handle the problem?"

But from what is mentioned of June's life before she met Ward, it seems like she had a very simple life and was just waiting to get married and have kids, so I guess she was happy being a homemaker...she didn't exactly seem like the most interesting person; she basically just cooked and cleaned all day, but she did have somewhat of a social life.

June having some more friends would take her mind off worrying about the boys for awhile.

They should have had her friends with Mrs Rutherford. Now that would have made sense.

I think she was friends with her (Her name was Gwendolyn, right?), but only over the phone or when she had Ward had plans with Gwen and Fred. They never had June just hanging out for an afternoon cup of tea.

That's true, but at times I kind of felt sorry for her because she seemed lonley. Family is good, but at times people need friends. And she was the only female in the household, too.

Haha! I remember those days! Back in high school when we had nothing better to do than write fan fics...That was back before nursing school consumed my life.

FOL85NatandMrsGRock and I even created a website totally devoted to Barbara Billingsley! Anyway, that's beside the point. The point is, I wish June would have had friends too. The show was about the boys, Beaver in particular, though, so I guess letting June have friends would take some of the focus away from the boys. There was an episode or two where June apparently had friends. It's been a long time since I've been able to watch LITB, but I'm pretty sure I remember her having some ladies over for one reason or another...didn't she have ladies over at her house in the episode where they had the monkey in the house and it made a huge mess with everyone there? I may be mistaken. I don't think I've seen an episode since 2004...sad, I know...

Man, it's been YEARS since I've posted!!! It's weird how life and priorities change! This message board used to be a TOP priority for me! I was on here CONSTANTLY!! I kinda miss those days...

Wasn't she always going to PTA meetings, she was probably friends with some
of those women, even though they didn't show it. And wasn't she kind of
friends with Larry Mundello's mother too? It does look like they would have
played that up a little more.
