Default Veronica Mars...Forever?

"Bell chimes for Veronica Mars"

Dimunitive actress says she could play pesky young detective "forever."

Kristen Bell is not a teenager, but she plays one on TV.

This upcoming fall season her character, the title heroine of CW's Veronica Mars, is leaving high school--fitting, since the actress is really 26. Bell, appearing at the TV Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, California, told the TCA that she was so excited to get the job, she never concerned herself with the age difference.

"I was really excited that I had found a job," she said. "I really felt like it was heads above the rest of the teenage dramas. It's always a joke, 'Are you going to be 40 and still playing high school?' But I didn't think about it."

When asked how long she thought she could play the character, she replied with a childlike, "Um, forever."

"I never feel ridiculous," she elaborated. "There's certainly a part of me that yearns to play my age...I think that as I do things outside of Veronica Mars, I'll probably try to grow up a little bit."

Bell talked about how she differed from her onscreen counterpart.

"I don't have the stomach Veronica has," she confessed. "I think I have some of the stubbornness and a little bit of the go-get-em, but I am about 20 percent more girlie than Veronica is."

"I'd scream my head off if I saw a body in the freezer," she joked.

She also said that the character is keeping her gruff edge this season, even if Veronica appears somewhat softer in CW marketing materials.

"She does [still] have a lot of her edge," Bell said. "Some of the stuff she does [this season] is girly, but she's still very tough."

The actress expressed gratitude toward the fans who have helped support the show, such as the group who rented a plane and flew a banner over LA urging CW president Dawn Ostroff not to cancel the low-rated series.

"I think it's really crazy and really awesome that they would go to those lengths," she gushed. "The bloggers are pretty much the reason we've gotten a lot of the ratings. We're all extremely thankful [about] the lengths they have gone to."

But Bell says she herself doesn't have the time to check out Internet message boards, which are often buzzing with praise for the show and her.

26? Really? I thought she was a couple of years younger.

It's nice to see an actor thankful to the fans for supporting thier show.
Fans of so called "cult shows" are always extremely loyal to thier ratings challenged programs.

considering that the show has ALWAYS been put in a timeslot with extremely tough competition, i think it should be rewarded for how well it HAS done.

the show has always kept me on the edge of my seat, never disappointed and while it may be impossible for someone to just watch a single episode and follow it, i think anyone that does stick it out for a couple of episodes WILL become a fan.

I think it coming on after Gilmore Girls will help it. Plus I've heard that the President of CW LOVES VM. So, I think we'll atleast get a few more good seasons out of it. Especially if they actually let Veronica and Logan be together for awhile. Who doesn't want to see that???
