Maybe sorta solved, anyway. I have to admit that my brain usually checks out when I see the UM segment on Glen and Bessie Hyde, the young couple who disappeared while exploring the Grand Canyon back in the 1920s. Just another wild west legend....
However, I've been thinking more and more about going to the Grand Canyon myself, and after seeing several references to the couple, the story sort of piqued my interest. Here's is a link to an NPR story about the legend from 2001: http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/...andcanyon.html It's about a river guide who attempted to recreate the Hyde's trip using the same kind of boat. The story also credits UM with reviving interest in the legend and includes audio clips from the UM segment. It's worth a listen. The audio files are in Real Audio format. |
