"The WB's Finest Moments and Memorable Missteps"
From Entertainment Weekly: (I added a few comments here and there) #15.Cleghorne!- The 1995 show brought us the genius of the comic exclamation point. #14.Mary Trashes The gym- In The 1999 episode of 7th Heaven, called "Sin...", Mary trashes the gym. Along with marking the prissy loss of innocence, it branded Mary as a bad girl, which, mirroring Jessica Biel's unhappiness with the show, later led to her exit from the series. #13.Everwood Has Daddy Issues- "I hate you!"/"Well I hate you right back!" set the tone for Everwood's heart-breaking, and very un-7th heaven like emotional frankness. The CW has already made it's first mistake by not picking up one of TV's best Dramas. #12.Mary Cherry becomes "Popular"- Via grotesque and profane southerb bell Mary Cherry, and future Nip/Tuck creator, gave a well-manicured middle finger to The WB's trade-marked poignant teen angst. #11.Smallville institutes a No-Fly Zone- "No flights no tights" was it's mantra. It became a durable hit and will be on The WB this Fall. #10.Michigan J. Frog is laid to rest- In July 2005 the Frog was laid to rest after 10 years. (The WB hoped to woo older fans with stars like Don Johnson). Six months later, the netwok croaked. #9.Gilmore Girls Watch Pipi- The 2004 epiosde where "We got is a pippi virgin", was a esoteric acheivement. #8.Two Words: "Dubba Dubba"- In keeping with the fun-loving imae, The WB used the slogan "Dubba Dubba-WB." Dubba was retired in 1997. #7.Jaime Foxx's Sitcom- The Wb's highest rated sitcom in the 1996-1997 season. It lasted 5 years. #6.Roswell Fans Rejoice- When fans sent The WB thousands of Tabasco Sauce Bottles, to voice their support for the almost canceled sereies, The WB had no choice but to renew it. A second Roswell rally landed the series on UPN for it's 3rd season. Other SOS (Save Our Show) movements have had similar success. After frantic "Veronica Mars" fans flew a banner over LA, The CW picked up the drama for a 3rd season. #5.Chad Michael Murray Is A Star Dammit!- The Wb had it's own celeb making system: Throw them on every show possible. Chad spent a year on "Gilmore Girls" then a year on "Dawson's Creek." He finally got his big break as Lucas Scott on The WB's "One Tree Hill", in 2003.....They also did this with the stars of "Supernatural." Jensen Ackles was on a year of "Dawson's Creek", then was a series regular on "Smallville." Jared Padalecki was also a "Gilmore" boy for a few years. And Milo Ventimiglia, also of "Gilmore Girls", was the lead in one of The WB's final shows, "The Bedford Diaries." #4.Shannen Doherty Quits Charmed- Doherty's Prue bit the dust in the 2001 Finale, but the real action was off screen, in the WB's juiciest scandal ever. Let's just say Shannen and Alyssa Milano didn't have a very sisterly bond. As Aaron Spelling did 24 years earlier with "Charlie's Angel's", he quickly found a replacement, Rose Mcgowen. Tiffani Theissen isn't the only actress who can fill Doherty's shoes! #3.Dawson Heart Katie- Couric that is. As he admitted in the Series' Pilot episode, that Dawson "Walks his dog in the morning to Katie." That comment only forshadowed the blunt discussions about sex and pop culture, that fueled Creek over it's 6 year run. #2.Felicity Get's A Haircut- Nothing could prepare fans for the Dramas second season opener, where Keri Russel cut her hair, just a mere inches of a cue ball. Suddenly the ratings began to slip. The big question now wasn't Ben or Noel, but "What can we do to get her hair back?" Ratings for the 1999-2000 season took a hit, of course time slot changes had nothing to do with it...The negative reaction was so strong that The Wb told reporters "Nobody is cutting their hair again on our Network!" #1. (No surprise here) Buffy Kills Angel- The Wb's first double hitter- a breakout and a cult hit. Crucial Buffy events happened in this 1998 episode (Becoming Part 2). Aside from killing Angel, this Joss Whedon-written masterwork episode also featured Buffy's Mom finding out she's a Slayer, Xander telling Willow he loves her, and Buffy leaving Sunnydale on a bus. |

actually i was referring to the DUBBA-DUBBA-WB commericals from like 96-97 where they had the cast of WB shows singing "DUBBA-DUBBA-WB"... it was hilarious to see Jackee Harry singing and dancing alongside Tia and Tamara, Niki Cox and so on... |
