Watching CIC then, Watching CIC now... - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

You know, when I was really small with the Powell and Pembroke versions of CIC, I took as a show made for me. Yes, I watched the show religiously from beginning to end. But as a grownup, I was surprised at the amount of sexual inneudos in the show itself. For a kid based show, there was a lot of adult humor. Charles' date and Charlse himself being hidden in the paper mache dinosaur while making out(not shown) and the conversation overheard between them. Adam watching Charles every move as to how he handles his dates. How Charles could describe every detail of his dates. "She smart. Sophisicated. She smells like baby powder."

There is also some disbelievable situations as well. The house being sublet as well as Charles himself to the Powells. They had Grandpa Powell, so in other words, they never needed Charles. Mother Powell disappears and reappears briefly in the final season in one episodes. Charles' mother, Lillian, should not be on Charles' case all the time. He was grown up enough.

But always watching the reruns give me a happy glow. A nostalgic trip to memory lane. Buddy. Grandpa's insults to Buddy or Charles. The beautiful set of the living room and kitchen. That wonderful resolve a situation in 30 minutes special episode. The whole Chazz personaltiy. Charles' dates. How I wanted to smack Adam across the face. How I was in love with Nicolle Eggert and Josie Davis. I actually did prefer Josie, but that's another story. All this made go back to that year 1987-1990. Happiest moment in my life. The warm glow of watching CIC on that old plastic wooden T.V set. Everytime. Sounds weird, but that's how I think.

Growing up as a kid in the 1980's I was in love with both April Lerman and Josie Davis.

I never had a crush on Nicole Eggert though. Probably because Jamie was kind of a ditz.

Josie Davis is so cool. She sort of reminded of that girl from Jurrasic Park a bit, though. Except taller.

Hey 88survivor,

I know what you mean about watching it as an adult and being not so willing to temporary suspend your disbelief. But I guess that's one of the great things about being a child we'll unfortunately never truly have again.

And yeah, I never got the sexual innuendos either - I guess that's kudos to the writers??

The thing about it is that watching it as a child and watching it as an adult simply brings new things out that you appreciate. As a kid, I thought the show was funny, I didn't care which family and I thought Scott Baio was cute and I thought it was cool how he had the same mom as in Happy Days.

Now I watch it and mostly I enjoy the chemistry Charles has with the children, especially with Jason. It's so charming. I also enjoy watching Charles in college and in relationships with friends and girlfriends and comparing it with my own college experiences. I like to see how the children acted as well and ask myself if that's how I acted at that age. Different stuff like that.

I especially love "No Nukes Is Good Nukes". It had a very good message and for Josie to stick to her beliefs about who has the bigger Nukes(US or Russia at this time) and how she feels it is wrong. Charles also gave her that if you don't like what your government is doing, protest about it. Voice your opinions. I thought it was a very interesting episode, considering the time period.

I also watched the two parter when Gwendolyn returns.......it was also a bit sad as to how they depart each ways other because she is engaged to another man in California. I know, most Powell episodes are not emotional...but it was kind of sad in a way. Okay, I was a bit emotional wreck because you wanted both Gwen and Charles to be together. In the end, it didn't happen at all.
