I know music, but for some reason early 50's music I skip over in knowledge. I know 40's, and late 50's-late 70's. Now I have the top 100 Billboard songs for 46-2005 so I have the music, I just need help picking out songs for a 50th Anniversary CD for my Grandparents. Now I would like to get music from the era, but the problem is my Grandpa hates Rock and Roll music for the most part. I know they like Al Jolson, Dinah Shore, Perry Como, Frankie Laine, Arthur Godfrey, and the Andrew Sisters. Most of that is late 40's so my question is does anyone have suggestions for music from the 50's, that is not rock and roll and that isn't on the radio all the time. I am looking for unique songs that they mignt not have have heard in years, that isn't Rock and Roll. No Bill Hailey or Elvis. Thanks for your help.

Here is a CD that may give you some ideas. Mainly male and female vocalists from the 50's. Fabulous 50's

Nat King Cole had a lot of big hits in the early-to-mid '50s... Mona Lisa (1950), Too Young (1951), Pretend (1953), A Blossom Fell (1955), If I May (1955).

Also consider Doris Day, Nelson Riddle, Les Baxter, Gogi Grant, the McGuire Sisters, Joan Weber, the Fontane Sisters.
From the '40s and into the early '50s, there's the Ames Brothers, the Ink Spots, the Merry Macs, the Skylarks, the Four Vagabonds.
