Which of the two apartments that Mary lived in was your favourite? I really liked the first one, the bachelor. It looks very big and the sunken living room is a bonus to me. Kevin.

I definitely preferred the first one. Anyone could have lived in that second one, but the first one seemed to suit Mary so perfectly. I was a little sad when she moved.

I liked the first one better. It was more homey like, and Mary had Phyllis and Rhoda as friends, living in the same building. I don't think Mary had any friends in the second apartment building.

I always wanted my first apartment to be like the first apartment. I loved it. My first apartment ended up being a bachelor, but it was so cramped and blaaahhhh. Then, I moved into my current one bedroom and it's much better.
I did what Mary did, but in my case, the second apartment is much better. |

I'd be willin' to be no one preferred the 2nd apartment. Which makes you wonder, why did they move her?? Okay, so maybe she was a little more mature with a little more money, but couldn't they at least have given her a "step-up" apartment that was as uniquely '70s as 119 North Weatherly?

I liked the first apartment better, cause of Rhoda and Phyllis, and also it always looked like Mary was on more of a budget there,ie no bedroom but it was very cute and the view was great for the snow scenes.
Mary's 2nd place was very nice but the view from her 2nd place could have been anywhere. Funnily enough in "Rhoda" when Rhoda split with Joe and moved apartment,I preferred the orginal! |

I'm like everyone else here.I liked the first apartment better. It had a lot more character.
To answer your question TALLguyinKY,apparently the woman who owned 2104 Kenwood Parkway(the house seen as the exterior of Mary's original apartment)got fed up of neighbors walking by and staring at her house,on account of always seeing it on MTM.On one occasion, the woman posted a sign on the front lawn that said"MARY DOES NOT LIVE HERE".That apparently is what led the writers to decide to move Mary to another apartment. |

Yeah, I saw that on one of the documentaries on the DVDs. But instead of "Mary Does Not Live Here" I saw a banner saying something about Nixon I think.
Too bad they couldn't just find a similar exterior, lol. |

I liked Mary's first apartment better. It seemed to suit her better. Besides, Phyllis and Rhoda lived in the building with her. The second apartment was nice, but it seemed a little to sophistacated and grown-up for Mary's taste.

I also liked the first one.
I don't think the reason that the producers decided to move Mary in season six was because of the lady not wanting her house used; from season four on, I believe a different, but somewhat similar exterior is shown for the original apartment. I think they just decided that because of the loss of Valerie and Cloris, it was time to make a change of surroundings. |
