Default FATHER OF THE YEAR EPISODE

This episode is probably my most favourite one of all. When Mike reads Marcia's winning letter at the end of the show, it just makes me so emotional. I really like listening to Robert Reed's voice when he gets into his lecturing speeches. If I recall, I think he was a Shakespearean trained actor? Kevin.

This was a very nice episode. I actually teared up a bit when he read the letter and they both hug. It was emotional and nice to hear how she felt about him.

Definitely one of the very best. In fact too good almost as the later seasons seem to miss this geniune sincere element and usually goes for the slapstick angle.

I prefer the first two seasons and I seen now why Robert Reed fought for better quality shows.

'Father Of The Year', along with 'The Voice Of Christmas' are probably my two favorite Brady Bunch episodes.

Robert Reed was certainly the driving force that made the show as good as it was...

Yea,

Voice of Christmas is REALLY good, and is so under-rated, even by Brady Bunch historians. They NEVER play (or played) this during the syndication/TBS (which used the same prints) cycle except during Christmas.

I think syndication stations always treated this as a special "only for Christmas" episode, which is a shame. Barry said in his book that this episode was a big ratings boost for the show during the first run.

Yes, Robert Reed was a huge, and underrated part of the success of this show.

IMO, he's the best actor/father in the history of TV (that's ANY show, not just sitcoms)... he was SO REAL as the father of these kids, especially when he has his heart-to-heart talks with them. He loved those kids, and it shows in his performances.

And yes, he was a Shakespearean trained actor. He took the whole cast to England one summer, the main purpose of which was to have them experience the culture of Live Theater over there.

He bought movie cameras and gave each of the kids a camera to take with them on their trip. Some of the footage of that trip (shot by the kids themselves) has appeared in subsequent Brady specials over the years.
