Default Darryl Bell stated in a recent interview that ADW was...

Always looked at as a show that had success because it aired after The Cosby Show on Thursday Nights. I guess it's easy to think that since the Cosby Show was a Number 1 Show the First 3 seasons ADW was on the air. But since NBC never moved it I guess we wil always have to wonder-"Would ADW have succeded if it was moved after it's 2nd season and put on the schedule as a Lead In?

and the one time ADW was used as a lead-in the year after TCS ended, it flopped big time.

Well I don't count that year because by that time all those new stupid characters were added to the show-lol

I think the show could have made it on another night where it would have fit in and didn't have any real competition. Many thought the Fresh Prince was going to flop as it was considered a 'fish out of water' concept for its time.

Maybe it could've thrived on its own. Years 4 and 5 saw it rank one point above Cosby in the ratings so SOMEONE with a Neilsen box was switching the channel to watch it. Family Ties was the show that fell down in the ratings when it was moved away from Cosby. If Cosby carried any show it was that one.

Not really. Family Ties was moved opposite top 10 hit Murder She Wrote. Everyone knew it was going to take a hit. And during the final season, the actors were just going through the motions because everyone knew it was ending. Despite that the final episode of FT on Sunday night was #1 for the week. ADW had no competition when it was on Thursdays. . Magnum P.I. had already been moved. During the 1984-1985 season I believe a few episodes actually finished ahead of Cosby and you can't say that Cheers helped it because although Cheers was now a hit show , it was not a consistently top 10 show yet.

No sucess if it wasn't for the Cosby Show as lead and specially when it became more black i.e.e really trying the best to reflect life at an HBCU college plus more topic oriented... Could have worked on UPN at the time but not on NBC

But the sries ran its course because Dwayne, Witley and some of the gang did not have any reasons to stay there for ever at some point capus is to be left... that is why the show had to stop, specially because the next generation of Character did not have any Dwayne/Witley potential replacement, etc...
