Default Should the New Show this Fall "Ugly Betty" be called....

"Nerdy Betty" or Dorky Betty? It's clear that the betty character is no where NEAR Ugly she just has a Nerdy type of Style with the Glasses and Dressing. So I don't know why it' being called Ugly Betty" I actually think the Betty Character is CUTE just Nerdy. I guess they really couldn't cast a person who was REALLY UGLY to play this role-lol But does anyone think the Betty Character is unattractive?

Solomon, it is taken from the Spanish tele novela Betty La Fea. That Betty wasn't ugly either. Actually, she was hot, but that is how the show will eventually end, with Betty turning pretty and getting the man of her dreams.

it is based on a telenovela as Brian said, so the premise is that this girl is ugly, but not to say it in such a literal sense, merely that those around her are so confident and wearing the "best" clothes and styles, this poor girl doesn't fit in. They just took the title and translated it into english.

Here is the Spanish version of Betty and what she looked liked without the makeup.

It sounds like the critics are high on this show. I wonder why ABC is burying it on Friday nights?
