I was told that the Indian character on the Grand Canyon episode was played by the actor that played Tonto on 'The Lone Ranger'...anyway, this evening while watching that episode (my daughter is 4 and insists on watching one episode every night before bed, even though she saw about 6 episodes this morning on the marathon...haha) I just noticed an inside joke...Mr. Brady says "Yah-ta-hey" to Alice and she asks what it means, and he says it means "hello"....and then she replies with; "I'll remember that if I ever run into Tonto"....and then by golly SHE DOES!!! and she says it to him!
Maybe everybody already knew this, but I just got it...haha As a kid, the "BOBBY....CINDEEEE" was a favorite quote between me and some of my friends and family..... it can be a fun subsitute for "Marco ...POLO" in the pool...haha, try it out.

Great post! I never noticed that about the 'meeting Tonto' comment! Funny how Silverheels (Jay Silverheels, who played Tonto, was an actual American Indian) complained about American Indians being stereotyped on TV, then he plays Chief Big Cloud, or whatever his name was, on the Brady Bunch...which includes a scene of the Bradys participating in a ritual dance...someone, on another thread, pointed out that these ceremonial dances had a deep religious meaning, and it would have been ridiculous for any Indian tribe to allow the Bradys, who have no idea what the dance is about, to participate and just 'do their own thing' while dancing around the campfire. |

They were always stereotyped as the "bad guys" on movies and television. The Bradys dancing with them was a step forward in changing their image.
