I just watched them, or the beginging themes of them. That male voice singin' is crazy. It sounds like a Sesame Street character or somethin'.
John Ritter's character was originally to be called David. That's wild. |

And here is the irony, in the episode where terri falls in love with jack after he puts on that mustache, terris mother said he looked just like terris old boyfriend DAVID.

I think that the reason they didn't like the second pilot was because they thought that CHrissy should be the one to persuade Janet into letting Jack move in

What they did was (IMO)...
They Americanized the British show "Man About the House", made the first pilot, realized it was horrible (although fun to watch now), and went back to the original. The real first episode is nearly exactly the same as the first episode of Man About the House... However, Geroge & Mildred Roper kept their names in the US Pilot, but that changed to Helen and Stanley when they made the regular episodes. Also- interesting fact (for anyone with region free DVD players)-- the first episodes of George and Mildred are very similar to the first episodes of The Ropers. (However, the trio never comes to visit as Robin (UK Jack) had his spinoff at the same time). I have too much time on my hands I think! |

Actually, anyone who's been buying the Season sets of the show already knew that the show had two un-aired pilots, since there included on the sets as extras. Pilot 1 is on the Season 2 set, and Pilot 2 is on the Season 3 set.
Just FYI in case any of you (besides those of us who already knew this info since we've bought our sets already) would like to own the original pilots for real... Ed |
