Default ERIN AND DIANE AS TABITHA

Can you post pictures of Erin and Diane so I can compare their looks ? Also some more when they are younger older etc. Because I watched a TV show and Erin and Diane were 7 when they appeared on this show, and I think they looked very much alike and don´t know why they just kept Erin. I also have only seen episodes (at least most) where Tabitha is only played by Erin so I can´t compare. Is Erin the better actress ?

According to "THE BEWITCHED BOOK" by Herbie J. Pilato (1992), Diane Murphy
said: "I'm very happy with my life" ... "I loved working on BEWITCHED, and it
gave me some unique and wonderful experiences, but eventually, I wanted to
lead a more normal life. So I quit the entertainment business when I was
thirteen years old." Before leaving Hollywood, though, Diane did appear in a
number of TV commercials and a couple of other TV shows.

This website has cast pages for Erin & Diane (along with a photo of each while they were on "Bewitched").

I believe that Diane eventually started looking different from Erin who looked similar to Elizabeth Montgomery, so that is why they replaced her.

There's a site called The Bewitched Critic that has a Diane Watch. He critiques the episodes and also has detailed info on Diane's scenes. Many times when they were very small, both would be used in the same episode. Usually Diane was used for long shots and eating scenes and Erin was used for close-ups and scenes that involved actual acting.

Also once the girls were older, Diane would sometimes appear as a separate character. IIRC, she was a guest at Tabitha's birthday party when Uncle Arthur makes a Playboy-type bunny appear, and she played a ragdoll brought to life in another episode.

Wow.......they really look totally different. Diane´s hair is white blonde while Erin´s is more honey blonde and also Erin´s eyes seem to be more dark blue. They are both very cute, though. Thanks for posting.

Default Erin and Diane Murphy --and what if Tabitha Show

Well....the lighting is different, effecting the hair and eyes. I'd like to see more pics, though.

Erin was on a TV show, saying that William Asher had spoken with her about doing a series featuring Tabitha --which would've been great! There was one, in 1977 starring somebody else, Lisa Hartman --I didn't like it! I thought, why don't they have young Erin Murphy-Tabitha? She was a teen at the time, and that would've been MORE fun! A witch-type of Gidget show! How fun!

Can't recall right now about Tabitha the series --I didn't like it when they changed the idea of Adam being a warlock to being a version of Darrin, stern about witchcraft.

I didn't like the idea of Adam not being a Warlock either, but I still watched and enjoyed the show. Technically, if they followed continuity Adam should have been a bumbling warlock with powers that would get him into trouble and have big sis Tabitha rescue him. It would have made more sense that way since their Dad didn't like or allow witchcraft in the house.

THAT would've been WONDERFUL! It would've been funny! I was hoping that Paul Lynde would guest star as Uncle Arthur, but I don't think he did. I wanted to see the old cast make appearances. It made no sense to use Tabitha from the original show, without familiar faces. It seems like they tried to make it more of a romantic show --I recall Tabitha's boyfriend.
But I found it disappointing to age Tabitha when there's such rich story possibilities in her as a teen --see "Sabrina" a couple of decades later. I thought that show was great!

The only problem I can think of with Tabitha as a teenager would be Darrin and Samantha. If she were a teenager she would still most likely be living at home and people would expect to see Dick Sargent (or York) and Elizabeth Montgomery each week as her parents. I don't think they would have wanted to reprise their roles at that point. It would have been horrible to have another actress playing Samantha! I guess they could have said that Tabitha was living with her relatives or something, but that would have been stretching it a lot.

But it would have been FUN, anyway!

Or they could've had her at a Facts of Life-type boarding school. So maybe that's also stretching it a bit, too. But they could have had her at a mortal school, with a few other witches into the mix, as teachers and students.
In Britain, most upper-crust kids go to boarding school. Not as often in America.
When I was a kid, my folks would use the concept of sending me away to boarding school as a threat. How SCARY!

But after I saw Facts of Life, during my own teen years, I wondered if I wouldn't have enjoyed it?

Unless I would've been picked-on by the others!

Of course, as a kid, I loved being home with my cats, books, and backyard filled with trees.

Sleeping late; watching TV; luxuriating in a bath; playing with my toys. I would've missed it all. : : :bath

Someone more knowledgable than I can comment, but I believe there was a later episode, after Erin and Diane began to look different, where Diane played Tabitha because Erin was sick (it included a scene where Sam takes Tabitha to a playground). Apparently, after that episode aired, ABC received many letters asking why Tabitha had been replaced.

Yes that is correct, it was in season 5 in episode #149
"Samantha Fights City Hall" that Diane filled in for Erin when Erin
was sick that week.
