Question Public breastfeeding???

Are you guys for, or against it?? They did a local news story about this today, and I was shocked to see that in a nationwide poll that was done, over 60 percent of the American's that were polled, were against public breastfeeding. Personally, I feel that there's nothing wrong with it if it's done discreetly. By discreetly I mean without exposing almost everything for everyone to see. I mean, if famous actresses can run around with their boobs flopping around all over the place, then why the heck would people get so upset about a woman partially exposing herself to feed her child?? Most of the time they're showing less cleavage while doing this then they would be wearing a plunging neckline, so I don't really understand the outrage of most people. I was at my brother's wedding recently, and a woman was breastfeeding, and it didn't bug me at all, infact I hardly even noticed. Nobody at the wedding seemed to. So what's your opinion on this? Should women be able to keep their right to breastfeed in public, or not??

I don't see anything wrong with it. Hey, the kids gotta eat.

No, do it in the bathroom or somewhere not in public. It is very awkward to walk by and go whoa did I just see what I thought I saw. There is a place for everything and the mall or a restaurant or the park is not a place to do that. Keep your shirt on, literary.

I think it's perfectly fine. I have no problem with it.

I know the kid has to eat, but the mom could be a little bit more discreet about it. Instead of plopping her boob out for everyone to see, drape a blanket over her chest and feed the kid. Not that hard.

No! That's why many places now have family type restrooms. OMG, I know this girl who will breastfeed (or I should say has) at restaurants while at the table, walking around a store, at a baseball game in the stands.... I want to ****ing smack her.

They make pumps for a reason ladies!

It shouldn't be that hard to find somewhere private to do it.

I am 100% for it. A mother feeding her child is a natural and beauitiful thing and I see nothing wrong with it.

I remember as a kid, the first time seeing a woman breast feeding, I was like, oh my gosh, did I just see what I think I saw?? I was actually tempted to go back and check just to make sure. So, for people who have kids, I can understand why they might be against it.

I voted "yes, if it's done discreetly", because I do not have a kid, so I have no clue as far as when they have to be fed, etc, but I wouldn't do it

I don't like when women are in your face about it, and some of them are that way. I think under most circumstances, a woman can find a private area. If she can't, be discreet. It makes most people uncomfortable.

Janice made a thread about this a year ago and I stand by my post then:

But let's not pretend these women don't know they can bottle their own breast milk and bring it with them. This would make every public situation a lot easier- not having to set up camp, cover up, worry about the baby latching on or having trouble (thereby causing more screaming and attention). If you know you are going to be out at a time of feeding it is easier for the woman to bring her own bottled breast milk.

Sometimes it seems a lot of women breast feed in public to prove the point they have the right to do it wherever they want, or to intentionally draw attention.

They know full well they can pull out a bottle and make life easier for all involved.

(And for anyone saying that the baby will get confused by switching between the mother's nipple and the bottle nipple, let me just tell you that is a fallacy, ask a doctor)

I wonder if these people that voted against it either have a child or have a family member who has one.

My sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew (who will turn 3 this month) were at my house for 3 weeks and I spent almost a week at their place in Colorado. It is unrealistic for a mother to not always breast-feed in public. I know because one of my sisters graduated from college a month ago and the baby needed to be fed during the ceremony, which took about two hours. She always does it discreetly and covers herself.

Besides, weren't you breast-fed when you were a baby? Sometimes you have to see the whole picture.

Bottle your breast milk for when you are out in public.

It's as simple as that.

If the situation arises that you don't have it, fine, be discreet.

That's it.
