Question HOGAN FAMILY SURVIVOR

If "Survivor" took place with the Hogan's and fellow cast members, who do you think should be voted off the island? When one person votes, I'll ELIMINATE them off of the list--forever! And when you vote, if you do, give a reason why. But do keep in mind that the vote you place is for who you want to be ELIMINATED! You may though post a prediction to who you think would win. And now, let's all find out who the real SURVIVOR would be!

VALERIE
DAVID
SANDY
MICHAEL
MRS. POOLE
BURT
ANNIE STECK
RICH
MARK
WILLIE
GRANDPA LLOYD
BARBARA GOODWIN
PETER POOLE
STEVE TRAGER
CARA
BRENDA

Sorry if I forgot anyone who should be on this list. I put the people on that have been on more than 1 episode.

Again, Have fun!

The one person I'd vote off first and foremost is GRANDPA HOGAN!!! He is the most irritating character on the show, adding nothing to the show's comedy. I really think the writers were running out of ideas, especially since the kids were growing up, but that's no excuse to resort to lame cliches. He makes Peter Poole look like a god!

Just one thing I have to note about this SURVIVOR idea. Wouldn't be a hoot if the very last "survivor" turned out to be Valerie Hogan? What a weird turn of events that would be!

Play on!

Well, I would vote Mrs. Poole off, because I don't think I could last a day with her on the island.

I think Steve Trager will win.

Looks like Gramps and Mrs. Poole have been eliminated from the island. The remaining survivors are....

VALERIE
DAVID
SANDY
MICHAEL
BURT
ANNIE STECK
RICH
MARK
WILLIE
BARBARA GOODWIN
PETER POOLE
STEVE TRAGER
CARA
BRENDA

Keep on voting! There must be a winner. And yeah, Ed, that would be funny if Val was the last Survivor--even if Rich was, too!

I'll vote on here to get things going again! I'd vote off Annie Steck because, well, I didn't like her. Plus, she too never really added anything to the show. She was just used to play the more serious friend so Valerie would look funnier, unlike Mrs. Poole. So out she goes. That's my opinion. Vote and tell me yours! Thanks a lot,

REMAINING....
Valerie
Michael
David
Sandy
Burt

Willie
Barbara Goodwin

Say what??? Adam, you're a great guy and you know I "love ya more than my luggage", but you have got to be smoking something pretty heavy if you think Annie Steck was cast as the more "serious friend". I'd say 99% of the time Annie was the more zany one.

Remember how she "helped" Val slam the cabinet doors when Val was irritated with Michael during the pilots' strike?

Or how she teased Val about having an "affair" with George when he gave Val an expensive necklace for her birthday?

Or how Val was going to practically strangle Annie when Annie suggested she see the "humor" in Mark's mooning the students at school.

How about offering Val's sons "chicks, booze, etc." when Val was taking a trip to Bermuda? (Instead Val was mistakenly arrested as a purse snatcher!)

And who can forget how neurotic Annie became during the community theatre play when Mrs. Poole was cast at the last minute?

There are plenty of other instances, some which escape me at the moment, but my point is that there is NO WAY Annie Steck can be classified as a stand-in character to make Val look more funny. In fact, it was Annie who came across as the comedic one, not Val.

As far as Annie not adding anything to the show, I also have to disagree. She provided a nice contrast to Val's character, and showed how Val had other friends, and, more importantly, a LIFE.

One thing that bugged me about Season 1 (yes folks, there were things about the VALERIE years that I think could've been improved) was that Val's character(personality-wise)was one dimensional. She was the do-gooder mom and nothing else. She was much too dedicated to her kids and had nothing else to make her more of a well-rounded human being. At times when her sons acted selfish, like when she was sick, I remember thinking "what do you expect? You spoil them rotten!". Remember how she practically *begged* her sons to "let" her cook for them on her wedding anniversary??? Talk about sitcom clichés! No one would ever do that! I mean, didn't this woman have a life of her own? A hobby or two? A favorite TV show? Did she ever go to the movies? Gimme a break!

When Annie got involved in SEASON 2 (my all-time favorite season of the whole series!), Val got to play more and stretch as a character. She wasn't just the person who her kids tried to outsmart. She actually got to be part of the insane comedy of the show, and part of how she did that was through Annie, otherwise it would've seemed to out of character for Val to be in more comical situations.

Annie got Val to do the play.

Annie got Val to try a different hairdresser (what a *blonde* fiasco that was!).

Annie got Val to give up the piece of cheesecake. Etc. etc...

I'll even go so far to say that Annie was very important to the show, and had she & Val been allowed to do their "schtik" a season or two more, they could've developed into something pretty remarkable, right up there with "Lucy & Ethel", "Laverne & Shirley", or some 'broads' named "Mary & Rhoda". Ever hear of the last two?

Vote and tell me yours! Thanks a lot,

Hmmm... I think the next person to go should be 'Adam', a.k.a. 'Madness'... LOL!

Take care pal!

Cool

Everyone's got their own opinion--you had it with Grandpa and someone else had it about Mrs. Poole. I happen to have it with Annie. I meant more serious out of Valerie and Mrs. Poole when they're together. Valerie was funnier than Annie, though(In my opinion). People have different senses of humor. I think a lot of people would agree Val was funnier. Yes, Val was serious sometimes but I think she's just funnier. Out of Annie and Mrs. Poole, Mrs. Poole made Val look more serious. Compared to Mrs. Poole, Annie didn't add much. As far as you're concerned comparing them to Laverne and Shirley and others, I definitely do not agree with you there! As for me being voted off, I don't think so! Sorry to dissapoint you. I'm not leaving the island anytime soon!

Adam

I agree with you there pal, but I was just offering reasons why my opinion is different from yours. You had said she was more serious and had "never really added anything to the show."

Again I agree with you. I just think the Annie character helped place Valerie in more situations other than that of mother. Prior to Annie, Valerie never really did much, even when Barbara was around. Having Annie as the pal helped to change that.

Was Valerie funnier? You bet. She had that dry wit about her that was clever yet not demeaning. Annie, a professor at a college, was a little more to the left and neurotic, and was a nice COMPLEMENT to Valerie.

But see, the reason Mrs. Poole made Valerie seem more serious was that Mrs. Poole's role was to be part of the insanity that made up Val's world, so yeah, Mrs. Poole did get more of the jokes. Valerie was the SANE one and Mrs. Poole was LOOPY one, and Annie happened to encompass both qualities. It's typical comedic setup.

The same thing happened with Sandy. She was the sane one while Mrs. Poole was her off-kilter friend, her foil in a sense. Without that foil, Sandy would've been reduced to mothering the kids and nothing else. Fortunately, that didn't happen and she was allowed to have a life.

No biggie, you're entitled to your opinion, but I think I can see why some may feel as you do. Don't know if this applies to you but I'll still offer my theory. I was a fan of this show from when it started, so I was just probably more used to Valerie, Annie, etc. If you started to be a fan from the time Sandy was on, then you'd naturally have more of an affection for what developed during her time on the show. Sometimes it's not a case of who's better but simply a matter of who we got familiar with first.

Then I better get packing, eh? LOL! You're a good chap Adam! Nice to see other people with a sense of humor. And thanks for the thoughtful post too. We gotta keep this board alive...

Good reasons! I respect your opinion as I do everyone else's. I'm glad someone responds to my posts! So, obviously, we've got different opinions. So be it. It'd get a little boring if everyone thought the same way, don't you agree?!

The first blonde friend of Valerie's--before Annie. She was played by Christine Ebersole in 1986.

Oooh.. okie. I guess I'll have to vote her off then.. I really have no interest in keeping her around. And at least if Mr. Poole was on there he could predict the weather for us. =O
