Default One of the disadvantages for trading popular syndicated series is.........

They will come out on DVD. I did a trade for the Odd Couple and I just found out they are finally releasing season 1. I did the trade because I figured it would be another year or two before it came out. The Odd Couple DVD has been in the works for a while now.

Anyone ever had this happen to them?

but-----

what are the chances they will release the entire set on retail

if you look at the track record of the studios, the vast majority of series, are stopped before they are fully released

odd couple is 5 seasons, i dont believe they will roll all 5 seasons out

as far as has this happened to other traders, of course it has

I'd just gotten Hardy Boys and McCloud when the first release of those series came out. I've been holding onto the discs for what seems like ages as I don't want to put in the time editing commercials, putting in order etc. if more seasons are going to be released.

Mary Tyler Moore season 1 came out and it was a couple of years before they put out season 2. Now they're cranking them out pretty regularly.

The question is, how long does one wait before deciding to go ahead and make a set of a partially released series?

I have found lately, I start from back to forward.

When I started my set of New Outer Limits, I started on season 7, then 6 etc
Why? because I had a feeling it would come out.

More and more shows are- and as it happened they had released seaosn 1 when I got to 3
So I was off the hook for one.

But where as for lets say Night Court, they released season one and here we are how long later? Nada.

So I start from end to start, and then usually if something is gonna be out or starting I know.
And it saves me at least a season or 2 of work.
Retails are great if they are affordable, for a lot for a lot of reasons, one being full show- no editing, second being added footage of course
But I am less liekly to spend my money on a set, I have concluded and replace it just for those features-
Instead of getting something completely new to enjoy.

But when I started doing greatest american hero, by the time I got it all ordered and cpatured on my pc-
they released season one, with a date for seaosn 2.
I just delted the files and waited. It took 3 months of waiting, where as the time to do all 3 seasons would have been about that for me.

So it depends.
IF a show hasn't come out at all-
like Satruday Night Live, other than their specials-
Well as many know I am tackling that set period.
Because even IF they do start to release it. Its 30 years worth.
So they wont have all the seasons out, in less time than I am doing- so its one of those Ill pick up what I can retail and buy them
But I am still going full on with the set.
Im at a couple hundred episodes already.

another way to look at it,

i had numerous sets that are now on retail, or a major portion

but between the time i got them, and the release, i did move a number of them

and thats the idea, to build your collection by trades and ____

a great example is, here come the brides

i must have moved 30-40 copies of my complete season one discs

the retail is out now, i tossed my set in the bargain box, and i already swapped about 5 of the new set

a good set, will move, invest the effort and make some mileage out of it

I wouldn't be suprised if Amanda's came out. It did have Bea Arthur and maybe a company will bring if out in time for Maude.
