If Buddy slowly morphed to a dummy than would Charles' personality have anything to do it? It seems in the 1st Season, he was the caring and responsible to the Pembroke children. Whle in the Powell version, didn't his character seemed a bit different? Responsiblity is thrown out the window and bring those girls there for a good time, only to be caught by Powell children or Grandpa. Spew your morals to them and get back to your girl. Or has Charles' personality never changed? You be the judge of that.
Just curious.

I think Buddy was really "dumbed" down in the syndicated version. In the Pembroke version Buddy was fun loving and carefree, but there was a certain intelligence and responsibility under it all. The Buddy of the Powell seasons was a moron. Though I always have loved his relationship with Grandpa Powell.
I think Charles changed a bit between the Pembroke and Powell seasons, especially in the way that he dressed. In the Pembroke version Charles dressed preppy where he was a bit of a slob in the Powell version. Also, Charles didn't seem to have the same sort of feelings for the Powells as he did the Pembrokes. He really seemed to love the Pembroke kids, and his feelings didn 't seem to run as deep for the Powell kids. |

Did it also seem that Charles' personality really made you think, "Okay, Charles, why the heck are you hanging with Buddy if you are insulting him so much?" You know, that sort of thing.

I know. He was okay in season two but by the last two seasons of the show it was like he needed some serious pyschiatric help. I wish that he had not changed up like that. You watch the last episodes with his dumbness and the cycle of episodes begin again from episode one and you can tell the differences in regards to his personality from the first years and the last.

If Buddy kept getting dumber each season, imagine how dumb he is right now, lol.
