Default One of the best cast changes in TV history happened on S&S

Replacing Aunt Ethel and Melvin. Grady and Esther are so much better. Melvin and Ethel were boring. No personality at all.

I have to disagree and agree with you. Ethel had personality, but they didn't use her enough. She was entertaining with scenes with Fred. Melvin WAS boring, his character had potential, but he had no personality. I felt they should have worked with Slappy White and brought him back. Leroy and Skillet were under used as well. Grady was good, but he was overrrated.

I think that they should have used Leroy and Skillet more, they had alot of energy.

I think Redd Foxx and Slappy White were friends before Sanford and Son, so maybe they should have had him as different guest stars, and if one of them characters caught on maybe they could have ran with that a few times.

Here is another change. Hoppy is a lot better than Swanhauser (sp?)

Yeah, Redd and Slappy were friends way before Sanford and Son. I liked both Swanny and Hoppy in their own way. I think Hoppy was added to give the police duo some comic relief, because Swanny was too serious...in a comedy way.

I liked everyone they had in the casts. I liked how Lamont and Fred kept saying, "Stay out of it Melvin" I'm glad Aunt Ethel was replaced by Esther.

I don't know about anybody else, but I wanted to see Ethel and Esther in the same scene.

Seems that Ethel could've been developed more, maybe Melvin too. Seems they never had a chance to come "full circle".
