Question For Those in NYC -- Please help!

Hiya, fellow New Yorkers...

I'm trying to compile a list of "discount" stores in NYC (preferably in Manhattan) (nice stuff for college, but cheap price)... can you guys help me out? I'm kinda broke.

Here's what I came up with so far:

(List in no particular order)

  1. 99 Cent Stores (Duh, LOL)
  2. Conway
  3. GEM
  4. Century 21
  5. Filene's Basement
  6. Liquid Wholesalers
  7. Staples
  8. TJ Maxx
  9. Target
  10. KMart
  11. Daffy's
  12. Dee & Dee
  13. Rainbow
  14. Payless Shoe Source

Ricky's is a chain of boutiques that sells tons of stuff like T-shirts, cosmetics and other assorted stuff at discount prices. They have stores all over Manhattan. I was in one of them today looking at cheap sunglasses.

Also, believe it or not, Bed Bath And Beyond has lots of back to school stuff at reasonable prices. I bought my computer desk there a few years ago.

Ricky's? You mean this one? : http://rickys-nyc.com/

Oh heck... I can't afford stuff from there, LOL.
I can't afford anything from Bed Bath & Beyond, either.

Well, actually, scratch that -- I can afford it... but I'm not willing to buy stuff from there because they are so over-priced [in my opinion...going to college without a job, LOL].

The cheapest of all is the 99 cent shops, with all items 99 cents or less. There is a great one on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn, that even sells food for that price. They buy manufacturers closeouts and give real great price breaks. There are quite a few in the city.

P.S. Good luck in school.

Yeah, I suppose 99 cent stores are my best bet... but most of the things that they sell break too easily. I want to save money, but I also want quality, LOL. Yeah, I'm picky.

Daffy's was a nice store. I bought a nice sweatshirt there that was navy blue and had holes in the sleeves where you could put your thumbs through. However, I lost it at a bowling alley about a year ago and never retrieved it. I think I'll be able to go to Daffy's this week though so I might be able to pick up something to take it's place.

Daffy's as in this store? I think this is around Broadway in lower Manhattan. I took this picture, because I was laughing at the fact it says CLOTHING BARGAINS FOR MILLIONAIRES above the store sign.

Yeah, that Daffy's.
There's a few of them here, actually.

I just heard from one of my friends that IKEA has some pretty good deals & stuff... but the closest one that I know of is in Hicksville, Long Island. Does anyone wanna tell me how to get there via LIRR (besides getting off at Hicksville? )

The easiest way is to take the L.I.E. easbound and get off at the Hicksville exit, bear right and stay right and it is on the right side. Real big store and plenty to offer. It's unfinished furniture but quite a bit less then elsewhere. If your coming from the city, figure with no traffic 45 minutes as it's in Nassau county not Suffolk. With traffic 14 years.

There's one in Long Beach thats much better than the one in Hicksville. easier to get to on the lirr too

edit: the one in long beach i'm talking about is Peir 1..my sister got a lot of stuff for her apartment there..they're really cheap too. a lot better than ikea. that crap falls apart.

Wait.... Amazing Savings is still opened? Where? Where? LOL. The ones I used to go to are all closed now. [Referring to the ones in Union & Herald Sq.]

And uh... I... can't... drive... LOL. Is IKEA of walking distance from the LIRR? (Or biking-distance?)
