Does anyone remember the case of Sherry Dawn Dunson profiled on A.M.W.?
She was murdered at a Shell gas station in Houston Texas in 1991. She had been out with friends celebrating her 21st birthday when she was the victim of an apparent carjacking gone wrong. The suspect was a 20-30 yr. old black male who fled scene without the intended carjack vehicle - a black mercedes. There was an eye witness. edited to spell name correctly |

Hm. No responses. That's understandable since it was so long ago. I was just wondering b/c I knew Sherry. And as far as I know, there are still no suspects.

I've seen so many cases on AMW that I don't remember all of them. So I regret to say that the Sherrie Dunson case doesn't ring a bell.

I remember that episode so well; the reason it sticks out in my mind so much is beacuse the girl (sherry dawn) who was murdered, was my second cousin. As far as I know there has been no developments in finding the suspect.

I know this very well, It hit's home for me because Sherry is my sister. The police have never really told us much, they just stopped looking for the S.O.B. if any body know any thing about that night PLEASE tell someone that can help find the man that did this to my sister. They say it was all over a car I don't think that was it at all, that night just does not add up.

Hello.
Thanks to anyone that remembers this case or knows anything or saw anything that night almost 20 years ago in Houston. Sherry deserves justice! It's been ages since i visited here and did see your message (Rae21) a week ago and sent you an email right away. Since I haven't heard back I came here too, just in case. Sorry I misspelled Sherry's name. If a mod could change it in the title that would be nice. Anyway, the witness was the girl whose black mercedes they were riding in. The one that the murderer tried to steal, apparently. I read in the paper a few years ago that the lead homicide investigator from the case committed suicide due to a divorce and other things. I do, and hopefully after making contact with those listed on this site as her family, I can help bring them closure and justice for Sherry Dawn Dunson's senseless murder.

Back in October of 1991, I had been driving back from California, listening to the radio about the Clarence Thomas - Anita Hill controversy.
That's when the local news broke in with the report that Sherry had been murdered. When I got back to Oklahoma, I called the Houston Police Dept. and spoke with a detective who was familiar with the case. He wasn't much help, and pretty much dismissed my questions by saying something to the effect that Houston has so many homicides a year, they can't possibly solve all of them. I'm inclined to believe the detective: in the November 1991 issue of Texas Monthly, there was a chilling article called "Blood in the Streets" which detailed Houston as having more than 500 murders by the end of October. Below, a variation on the magazine web link - just put the words, dots and back slashes together. As far as the news report about a car-jacking gone wrong: Anyone with half a brain would wonder why an alleged auto thief would murder someone then NOT take the vehicle...or something. The story never did jive. I had met Sherry and her mom back in the 1980's. For the sake of her mom and other family members, I hope justice will come to the person/s involved in Sherry's murder. www . texasmonthly . com / articles / blood-in-the-streets/ |

I saw the AMW episode about Sherry Dunson in 1991. I guess I started thinking about her this week because of all the flooding in Houston. This case is what I think about when I think of Houston because I've never been there, etc. I was hoping that the person who did this to her would have been caught by now but unfortunately, they haven't. I remember they said she was sitting in the car and she did not have the keys. That's why the so-called car jacker didn't take the car. Her friend Brandy had the keys. I personally would think that they should look at anyone who got busted for car jacking that year and see if they were involved. Also, what happened to the gun? Is there a match to the bullet used? Computers are so much more sophisticated now. Maybe they could run the ballistics info through the database again. I feel sorry for her and her friend to go through that and especially Sherry's parents and other family. This was a tragic and senseless crime. I still have hope that they will catch the guy who did this.

Thanks Meddie - yeah, it would be nice to solve this crime.
Come to think of it, shortly after all that happened, someone told me that they thought Sherry was set up by another girl who was jealous of Sherry's growing popularity. Could be a false lead, but when you have cheerleader mom's trying to kill off their daughters' competition, ANYTHING could turn out to be true! |

The reason I state this, is that it is pretty common knowledge that authorities tend to frown upon exotic dancers, and due to the nature of her work, may not have spent as much time on it, as they would have for a young woman who was in a more respectable line of work. |
