I occasionally wrote to the show to offer suggestions for stories. I don't remember exactly how many story ideas I recommended, but they eventually went with a few of them. This included the 1959 death of George Reeves (of Superman fame) and the Green River killers. I once suggested the BTK case to no avail (but at least that case was solved, and I guess that's what really matters).

One on occasion, they wrote back to me, thanking me for suggesting the George Reeves case. Not surprisingly, I learned that I wasn't the only UM viewer to suggest that case. In their letter to me, the author of the letter said the show received a lot of viewer mail, making the same request.

Thats really cool Kane. And they used YOUR ideas for the show. Very cool.
My brother was going to but he never did.

Wrote them one letter asking for episode collections to be released about four-five years ago when they started getting popular. They appeared to have listened, even though I never received a reply.

I second the request for "Who's the Boss?" collections.

^ Write to them don't call the old 1-800 line that is posted on the bottom of the page. That is meant for tips regarding solving the cases at hand not requesting more dvd sets, what segments should be aired or anything along that line.

No problem. I called the 1-800 number several months ago and it's now simply a voicemail system where messages are checked once per day.

I presume they still have the old PO box if your mail isn't returned.

I haven't written to UM per se, but I've written to FLM about more DVD Sets and the content of them, but haven't gotten a reply back from them. Maybe I should write the same letter to UM, just change the date and names lol

Cheers

I wrote to them in 1993 or so, when I was about 10 or 11 years old.

Funny, and it shows how much I watched the show at the time: I saw a man and his wife in a restaruant one evening with my parents. The guy looked like Jim Boumgarden, who had a UM story where he had a identical twin brother that he never met, but was mistaken for many times as a child. Well, I played investigative reporter and remembered stuff about the guy (height, weight, etc.) and wrote to UM to let them know that I MIGHT HAVE SOLVED THE JIM BOUMGARDEN MYSTERY!!!!11!!

Or not. But oh well. I also asked (as a pre-cursor to today) if they had any VHS copies of the episodes for sale. "Cops" had them, so why not UM? About a month later I got a response, on "Unsolved Mysteries" letterhead, with the logo and everything. It was even on the envelope. Man, I had never been so excited to get something in the mail. They didn't do transcripts or videos (at the time), but thanked me for watching.

Anyone here written to UM about possibly making new shows. I know it wouldn't be the same with out Bob Stack, but it would still excite many UM fans to see fresh cases.

No. I just haven't had the emotional weight to contact them about that idea. But it couldn't hurt to ask the UM crew about it with hypothetical questions (such as "If you had the opportunity to restart UM, would you ever consider doing so?").

I guess this counts. I emailed Lifetime about three years ago or so and suggested that it might be helpful if they updated the UM section of their website. I got an email response a couple of days later. They thanked me for my interest in UM and said they were in the process of updating the website, which they eventually did. Too bad they don't update it very often. It's frustrating to think some of the cases might have been solved, or at least there might be new leads, and we just don't know it.
