I like it when they don't BASE on people (against their will), it's so sadistic when they do that.

I do! My fave stand up comics are Jeff Foxworthy and Jerry Seinfeld. And even though they haven't been on the stand-up circuit in years, Robin Williams and Billy Crystal are just hystericall!

I love stand-up comedy. Some of my favorites are:

Eddie Izzard
Larry Miller
Rita Rudner
Lewis Black
Dana Carvey
Ellen Degeneres
Jerry Seinfeld (but not as much as the others)

Yeah most of the comedians you named there are very funny. Ellen Degeneres used to be very funny, did you see her last HBO special, very dissapointing! Rita Rudner, IMO, is one of the most unfunny comedians I have ever seen! Other than those two you seem to have a pretty good ear for comedy! Dana Carvey is one of the funniest guys when he does stand-up (I wish he did more often).

but I believe the stand-up crown still belongs to George Carlin.

Yeah, Dana Carvey is an old pro at stand-up. His special that they show on Comedy Cnetral is one of the funnest things I have ever seen.
I know there's been other acts that were utterly hilarious, but I can't remember names very well...

Yeah, that one they show on comedy central is hilarious! They haven't shown it in a while.

Ok, maybe I should clarify... Ellen Degeneres's stand-up was much much funnier in her earlier days, but I didn't think the latest one I saw was "disappoining." Maybe we're not thinking of the same one. Anyway, the thing I liked about Rita Rudner was her low-key delivery. She doesn't slap you in the face with her humor, and I liked that. It's different than some of the popular comedians you see out there today. Well, that's just my opinion.

I highly recommend Eddie Izzard for anyone who hasn't seen him. His intelligence is very refreshing.

I think Ellen in funnier NOW than she used to be. She's always been a genius as far as I'm concerned though. This HBO special of hers that everyone's calling 'disappointing - are we talking about the one entitled 'In the Beginning'? Cos if we are, I wanna say that I thought that show was one of the funniest things I have seen in a looong time!
Oh, and you're right - Eddie Izzard is great. I've been to one of his shows - it was so cool!

Some of the later comics are too vulgar for my tastes! I just like things that are pure fun!

I loooooove Rita Rudner. Gosh I haven't seen her perform in years! Maybe women appreciate her comedy more, I do remember her talking about alot of women's issues.

I also like Ellen DeGeneres, and Margaret Cho. I don't know why, she isn't all that funny really, but I think it's her delivery that gets me. In her heyday (and child-molesting allegations aside) Paula Poundstone was ok, but never one of my favorites.

I think I prefer female comedians. It seems to me that there are far fewer women in the comedy biz, but the ones that make it are very good. As opposed to men, where there are alot of hopefuls that just aren't very good at all.

I also like Dana Carvey, and sometimes Denis Leary.
